James Hawes & Goodchild Funeral Directors are looking for a calm, compassionate individual to join our team in London as a Funeral Service Operative.

As a vital member of our team, you’ll play an active role behind the scenes and help bring people’s loved ones into our care. You’ll also participate in funeral services, ensuring everything goes smoothly and our families have the best possible experience.

In return you’ll receive a competitive salary of £30,082 to £30,345 per annum inclusive of London Weighting Allowance of £3,645 per annum. You will work 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, and there is an On Call/Out of Hours rota where you will receive additional payments.

We do our utmost to make sure your loved one's final journey is as special as we can possibly make it. Whilst the family were attending the service and the team were organising the floral tributes on the flower terrace in a light shower, we captured this rainbow and shared it with the family. In their feedback following the funeral they expressed the following:

"To Samantha and the team on the day, thank you, it went without fault, every detail supported and to the very thoughtful driver who took an amazing photo of the full rainbow over grandad's flowers whilst we said our final farewell, you sir showed such kindness and respect and for that we are forever grateful!"

Being proactive.

Grief can be isolating and it’s tempting to stay at home over the cold Christmas period. But it’s important to get yourself out of the house to prevent isolation. A winter walk for some fresh air could be a good way to relieve anxiety.

Focussing on the needs of others is a very rewarding experience and encourages you to engage with different people. For that reason, volunteering is a good way to help cope with grief. It also allows those who want to skip the festivities an opportunity to feel good during Christmas.

Traditions

Many of us practice annual Christmas traditions. When you’re grieving it may help to create new ones to honour the one you have lost. Eating their favourite meal, listening to their favourite song or visiting their final resting place are all good ways to continue to feel close to them during the festive season.

Alternatively, keeping up old traditions can bring comfort but don’t feel pressured to celebrate ‘as normal’. Take your time and do what feels right for you.

Writing a Christmas card to someone who’s grieving can be tough.

Many of us worry about finding the “right” words to say. Cruse Bereavement Support has created a helpful guide with tips, like:

• Avoid generic messages like ‘Happy/Merry Christmas’.
• Leave out any mention of their grief for the person they’ve lost.
• Acknowledge their loss by saying, ‘I know this year has been difficult, and this Christmas might feel different.’

This month we will be exploring how to handle grief at Christmas.

Connecting with others.

People mourn in different sometimes conflicting ways. Talk with your friends and family about remembering your loved one in a way which suits everybody. Once you know how everyone feels it may be easier to move forward and celebrate Christmas.

Reminiscing on shared memories with others can help people connect during difficult times and might help bring happiness over the festive period.

Try not to bottle up your feelings and don’t feel ashamed to ask for help.

Attend the wake if invited, it’s a chance to share memories and support the family. You don’t need to stay long; your presence is what matters.

Send a thoughtful message if you can’t attend, a handwritten note or message expressing sympathy will likely be appreciated.

Interacting with Others.

Offer condolences gently. A simple “I’m sorry for your loss” goes a long way. Avoid clichés or trying to fix grief, just be present.

Respect personal space. Some mourners may want quiet reflection. Be sensitive to emotional cues and avoid overwhelming anyone.

CT Hull Funeral Service Joins the Funeral Partners Family

We are pleased to formally welcome CT Hull Funeral Service of Poulton-le-Fylde into the Funeral Partners family of businesses.

Established in the 1950s by Tommy Hull, CT Hull Funeral Service has built a longstanding reputation for professionalism, compassion, and dedicated service to the local community. The business has remained a proud family enterprise, with Tommy’s son Chris Hull initially providing the continuity and now daughter Claire and son Chris continuing to play an active role in its day-to-day operations. Daughter Claire joined the business in 2005 and remains a key member of the team. Son Chris has also worked with The Football League and England team during his career along with the funeral business.

Over the years, Chris’s wife Catherine Hull has provided invaluable support, often being the first point of contact for families in need. The team also includes Rebecca, a trusted and experienced funeral director who shares the Hull family's commitment to delivering the highest standards of care.

In the coming months, CT Hull Funeral Service will be relocating to purpose-built premises in Poulton, designed to enhance the level of care and comfort provided to families. This move marks an exciting new chapter for the business, while preserving the values and traditions that have defined its service for generations.

We are honoured to support CT Hull Funeral Service as they continue to serve their community with integrity, compassion, and professionalism. We look forward to working in partnership with the Hull family and their team, ensuring that their legacy remains at the heart of everything they do.
