Here is an overview into the 4 Pillars course, part 1 of 5 in the Qigong Full Body Conditioning course. It focuses on building solid foundations. A structure built for the long term has solid foundations, a stable structure and good flexibility.

What the Chinese have called the ‘lower dantien' we now call the core. It is our centre of gravity, the centre point that manages the motion of the physical body: our balance, stability and power. A strong, well developed core is essential for optimal athletic performance and for a healthy life. A wrestler engages their core to stop from being taken down, a show jumper engages their core to stay balanced on their jumping horse, a ballerina exercises a strong core to pirouette. Activating our lower dantien via squats, standing practice, smooth deep breathing and other exercises creates the strongest foundations for optimal physical and mental health.

Get a hold on your emotions, learn to dissipate your anxiety fast.

As well as anxiety being an emotional reaction to life circumstances, it can also be aggravated by physical causes such as coffee, ginger, spirits, chilli, deep fried foods, processed foods, energy drinks and anything that causes the stomach acids to overact and rise up the oesophagus (heart burn and acid reflux). The Taijitu (or Yin Yang ‘swimming fish’ diagram) represents the interrelationship of yin and yang – the two opposites inherent in all things.

Everything is one. The first division of 1 is 2.

These two forces are the archetype of duality – in other words, they represent and are the parents of all opposites: hot and cold, dark and light, internal and external, and so on.

Yin and yang are the two equal parts of the one whole. They are not two separate things but together make up the whole.

They are the two opposite directions of the same dimension. Hot and cold makeup temperature, male and female makeup gender, loud and quiet makeup volume; yin and yang make up all things.

These simple ways of breaking things down into complementary opposites can bring enormous rewards to the ardent student.
