Beyond the Concussion: Healing the invisible damage

We often work with clients who ‘just don’t feel right’ years after they sustain an injury

Recent research led by Trinity College Dublin shows that a ‘leaky’ blood-brain barrier can persist long after retirement from sport, driving the neuro-inflammation associated with CTE

As Craniosacral Therapy practitioners, we have a unique skill set to support the body’s fluid dynamics, dural membranes and nervous system. By facilitating healing in the whole system, we create the environment for repair in the structures that protect the brain from chronic inflammation

People living with persistent symptoms after a concussion or 'mild' TBI can struggle with many domains of daily living such as work, study, leisure and family duties.
How can we help individuals get their life and back on track and return to the level of function they had pre-injury?
We believe that Craniosacral Therapy (CST) has so much to offer. We want CST to be a treatment of choice, not a last resort.

TREATING THE BRAIN

Many Craniosacral practitioners avoid treating the brain in fear that they will cause problems. But the brain is not magical, it is an organ. Like any other organ it is made up of cells (neurones and glia), it has a blood supply, a 'capsule' made of meninges, both the blood vessels and the membranes have their own nerve supply. Additionally, the brain is bathed in CSF and has a glymphatic drainage system. So when the brain is injured, all and any of those physical components will be damaged. Help will be needed to aid repair and recovery. Craniosacral Tharapy is perfect for the job.

Two cranial practitioners who specialise in this field are running a seminar on 8 - 10 May, in Exeter, UK. I would highly recommend this for anyone interested in improving their understanding and skill in meeting brain injury.

Modern medicine has excelled at specialization, but often at the cost of integration. When we treat neuro-inflammatory conditions or autonomic dysregulation, viewing the CNS as an isolated “black box” is a fragmented approach that limits patient outcomes.

The “Cranial Connect” model bridges this gap. By understanding the Biotensegrity of the dural system and its influence on Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) dynamics, we see that the cranium is the gateway to the body’s entire regulatory network. Craniosacral Therapy (CST) provides a clinical framework for practitioners to move from “siloed” treatment to Whole-System Neurology.

At Cranial Connect, we believe the most profound clinical breakthroughs happen at the intersection. When the neurologist speaks to the craniosacral therapist, and the neuropsychologist studies the dural pulse, the “fragmented” patient finally becomes whole.

You are not a collection of parts! 🧩➡️🌀

Join us this May to explore how the intersection of neuropsychology and cranial work can move your practice from managing symptoms to facilitating systemic homeostasis.

Cranial Connect: Bridging the Gap in Concussion Care 🧠✨
A concussion isn’t just a “bump”—it is a systemic event.
We created Cranial Connect because we saw a significant gap in care. Clients are often left navigating symptoms alone, while therapists can feel unsure how to help safely and effectively.
We’re here to bridge that gap by bringing together contemporary neuroscience and the art of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST).
Two Perspectives, One Goal:
• Erica (Physiotherapist, 24 years): Focused on the “how”—fascia, biomechanics, and how trauma is held in our anatomy.
• Priyanka (Clinical Neuropsychologist, 25 years): Focused on the “why”—how we think, feel, and process the world after injury.
We believe healing happens when the system feels safe. Our work helps a fragmented system reconnect and return to a state of wholeness, facilitating the body’s inherent capacity to heal. 🌿
We take this work seriously, but we approach it with the warmth of two colleagues who truly love what they do.
Follow us as we explore clinically informed, biodynamic approaches to recovery.
