🇬🇧❤️Today we celebrated VE Day at Cheverton Lodge Care Home 🇬🇧❤️

From taking part in quizzes to watching documentaries and enjoying wonderful performances, it was a truly special day remembering those who served and sacrificed.

Our residents also spent time reminiscing and sharing their memories of life in 1945 and the celebrations on VE Day, making the day even more meaningful and emotional.

A very special thank you to beautiful Chloe and Charlotte from MiniConcerts for their debut D-Day Dollies performance 🎤✨ What a fantastic job this talented pair are doing! We hope all of our residents thoroughly enjoyed the lovely entertainment and celebrations.

⭐ Team 1 - the “Pressure Cookers” (our Managing Directors), chosen by the judges.

And a special Residents’ Choice Award goes to Team 2 – the “Rolling Scones” (our Executive and Senior Management Team), as voted by residents.

A heartfelt thank you to our judges, participants, colleagues and everyone who got involved.

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve raised over £37,000 so far for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, helping to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Desserts have dazzled and the afternoon teas have been nothing short of delightful. From delicious cheesecakes to stunning puddings, the creativity just keeps on coming.

The “Pressure Cookers” and “Rolling Scones” truly embraced their inner pâtissiers, all for a brilliant cause.

To make the day even more exciting, many of our care homes and hospitals are following along, preparing and enjoying their own delicious treats.

We’re excited to share that Cubbington Mill Care Home in passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall ‘Good’ rating after being praised for running a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.

What a wonderful afternoon at Cheverton Lodge! 🌸🎶

Our residents were treated to a delightful live performance as a talented female musician brought the spirit of *“Swing into Spring”* to life. With a variety of stunning costume changes and a repertoire of classic swing hits, she had everyone smiling, tapping their feet, and even singing along.

The room was filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of nostalgia as residents enjoyed the music and the vibrant energy of the performance.

Our phenomenal Health & Safety team at Barchester is celebrating after once again being named healthcare sector winner in the internationally-recognised RoSPA Health and Safety Awards 2026.

For the seventh time, Barchester Healthcare has received the RoSPA Health and Safety Healthcare Sector Winner Award, ensuring staff, residents, patients and visitors are safe across all our care homes and hospitals.

2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the RoSPA Awards, which began as a small event to recognise the achievements of companies prioritising the safety of workers in UK, and has now grown into the biggest and most prestigious health and safety awards programme in the world, with the 2026 awards attracting 2,000 different entries from nearly 60 countries.

Our residents made the most of the beautiful sunny weather by spending time out in the garden. Surrounded by blooming flowers, the gentle breeze, and the soothing sounds of birds singing, it was a truly peaceful and uplifting atmosphere.

😲 Residents Reunited after 65 Years 👏

Everyone at Queens Manor Care Home in witnessed a special moment recently, as two residents discovered they had known each other over 65 years ago.

Over six decades ago, Margaret used to live in Myrtle Crescent, Bilston, but wanted to move to Bonnyrigg to be nearer to family. As was the norm at the time, she put a notice up in the post office in Poulton requesting a house exchange.

Dorothy, who was living in Eskdale Court, Bonnyrigg, spotted the notice and the ladies arranged to meet, then the exchange was duly arranged. Dorothy’s husband was an HGV driver working at Pentland Garage and the move brought him closer to his workplace.
Once the moves took place, the ladies did not see each other again until they bumped into each other at Queens Manor.

After much chat and reminiscence, it was confirmed that they were indeed the same Margaret and Dorothy who had swapped houses some 65 years ago.

What a small world we live in! ✨

We had a wonderful time celebrating David’s birthday with him 🎂 His daughter and grandchildren brought along some lovely presents, which made the day even more special. We all enjoyed cutting his birthday cake together and later he spent some quality time with his family in the garden. A truly heartwarming day filled with smiles and laughter 💛

👩‍🍳 The Countdown Is On - One Week to Go! 🍽️

Our Managing Directors and members of Barchester’s Executive and Senior Management Teams will be stepping out of their comfort zones on Thursday 30th April to compete for culinary supremacy in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2026.

Swapping their business suits for chefs’ whites, they will go head-to-head to cook up a storm and raise funds for Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

The Foundation helps connect vulnerable people and those living with disabilities to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. In 2025, the Foundation achieved a donation milestone of £424,000, which enabled the charity to provide vital help to a staggering 262 small groups and charities, plus 123 individuals in one year alone.

What a wonderful and successful raffle event we had! 🎉

We had 5 lucky winners, with some delightful moments along the way — Barry was thrilled to win the bottle of wine he had wished for 🍷, and Richard was overjoyed with his hamper, generously sharing sweets with staff ❤️

It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all, and we are proud to have raised over £600 for the Barchester Charity Foundation 🙌

☕ Celebrating National Tea Day 🌸

Residents, patients, families and friends came together to celebrate National Tea Day in style, honouring Britain’s most famous drink.

Our care homes and hospitals put together fantastic tea-inspired parties, supplied with a tasty selection of biscuits, cakes, savoury treats and of course, plenty of tea.

Everyone got involved in a variety of themed activities, including tea tasting sessions, interactive quizzes, tea cup decorating, virtual tea room visits, live music entertainment and more.

It was a tea-rrific day enjoyed by all. ✨

✨ Birthday Appeal Brings 328 Cards for 107-year-old Ethel 😲

When the team at Wood Grange Care Home in launched a card appeal to help one of their much-loved residents celebrate her 107th birthday, they had no idea what an amazing response they would receive.

Ethel celebrated her 107th birthday on April 2nd and after the appeal to the community launched last month, the home has been receiving cards for weeks filled with wonderful birthday wishes.

Everyone was amazed to find that Ethel had received a grand total of 328 cards, far more than the 107 they had originally set out to get for their star resident. All of the cards have been opened, read and are now displayed for Ethel, her family and friends to enjoy.

Ethel is so grateful and cannot thank everyone enough for their very kind wishes! 👏

This weekend, our residents had a wonderful time engaging with a sensory book activity. 📖✨

The different textures, colors, and interactive elements provided meaningful stimulation and sparked curiosity, conversation, and smiles all around. It was lovely to see everyone so relaxed, focused, and enjoying the experience together.

Activities like these are a great way to support wellbeing, encourage connection, and create joyful moments. 💛
