COMMUNICATION is the lifeline of any relationship - Elizabeth Bourgeret.

It’s interesting how we can often get lost in the complexities of what comes up in relationships whilst ignoring the basics i.e assertive communication.

Assertive communication asks that you communicate your thoughts, feelings, needs and boundaries in a clear, direct and respectful way.

What I often see happening in relationships is that we don’t communicate our needs or feelings assertively, expect the other to know what they are, get upset when our needs are not met and then either lash out at the other or start becoming resentful within. Thus forms emotional distance between both parties that become harder and harder to bridge.

Many of us engage in passive communication because we fear conflict. So we go with the flow and don’t speak up when we know we should. It does require some courage to speak assertively at first because it may cause some discomfort in the short term but in the long run it’s honest and respectful for both yourself, the other person and the relationship. It’s about integrity.

I find that when January starts the pace picks up and before you know it the year is in full motion. This can leave a lot of us feeling overwhelmed, like we are on the back foot and that time’s slipping through our fingers.

With our modern society always urging us to do more, achieve more, tick off more boxes I actually find the practice of goalsetting in the new year is not always the healthiest nor most important thing.

This is why I love the days leading up to the new year- they give us a chance to reflect, explore, imagine, play with the potential of the new year before it rolls on in. This moment is a powerfully YIN moment before the YANG do do do begins.

I AM YOU ARE ME

This old Mayan greeting goes deep. The more we can honour this truth as a code to live by the more loving we can be as a person.

The older I get the more I see myself in everyone I interact with. This is especially evident in my practice where every client I work with and every issue that comes up is something so familiar, something I’ve had to heal myself. Its like I’m looking in the mirror at an older version of me.

The symmetry of this is always so moving to me. Having compassion and love for my client in front of me is easy. But this process also forces me to share that same love and compassion for myself whom my client is inevitably reflecting at points.

We are all just walking talking mirrors for each other.

90% of the time people tell me they’ve forgiven someone who has hurt them I know it’s not true.

This is because they think they’ve forgiven- their mind has forgiven. They think its a good and noble a thing to forgive so they rationalise their way to forgiveness.

In reality their body hasn’t yet forgiven. The proof is when we go back and revisit some of those memories of wounding all that anger and hurt is still as palpable as ever. And there’s NOTHING WRONG with this.

Forgiveness is not a destination that you can reach by bypassing anger and pain.

Forgiveness is more like what you’re left with after doing the work of processing what you’ve been through. It’s a natural consequence of healing. Don’t rush it!

As the outside world seems to be getting more destructive, unpredictable and chaotic it becomes vital to have something consistent in your own life that grounds you.

Perhaps this is a safe space, a community, a friend, your meditation practice or your exercise routine. Perhaps it’s all of the above.

It’s also important to get clear on what your needs and boundaries are. Perhaps you know you need more support now than usual, more frequent chats with a friend or maybe even professional help. Perhaps you also know that checking your social media more than twice a week gives you too much anxiety. Get clear on what feels good or what doesn’t for you and live each day in alignment with this.

Life is a marathon not a sprint. I fear that what’s happening in the world will get worse before it gets better. It’s key to get systems in place now that add to your wellbeing in the long run 🪷

In sessions, I help you get to the root cause of your blocks, fears or negative emotions and use systematic methods to release them. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, writer’s block, or keep finding yourself in undesired circumstances, Mindsetting will take you along on a fulfilling journey of self-discovery, leading to a renewed and constructive mindset.

I am devoted to holistic health and seeing the mind-body-spirit as one. Building from my background as a trained Chef, I trained as a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist and also teach regular Nutritional Cooking classes in CNM, London. Sessions with me incorporate guidance on mental, emotional and physical health. Whenever needed, I share tools and resources from mindfulness practices to nutritional recipes for you to take away into your life.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) also known as ‘Tapping’ is a widely used self-improvement tool that effectively releases negative emotional states like anxiety, phobias, traumatic memories, and can also manage cravings and addictive, unhelpful behaviours. I use EFT because it is a powerful and efficient technique which not only allows fears and blocks to be safely released but can also facilitate profound personal transformations with corresponding new mindsets. A recent study has shown that EFT results in a 24% drop of cortisol (a major stress hormone), anxiety and depression when compared to conventional psychotherapy or rest.
