Is boarding school right for your child? Interesting question to reflect on if your children are settling into a new school at the moment, or you are considering it for next year, perhaps.

I enjoyed the discussion with Seen & Heard when contributing to this article. My conclusion was, how can you decide, if your child has never boarded and schools have changed since my boarding days? Consideration and communication are key.

In preparation for the start of my Facilitator journey with .unmaskedman next month I’m going back to one of my favourite books about being a man.

The authors present a Jungian introduction to the psychological foundations of a mature, authentic, and revitalised masculinity.

I am looking forward to leaning into my:

King
Warrior
Magician
Lover

Books and learning are only one aspect though. The Facilitator training brings these archetypes to life, embodying the learning, making it a lived experience which can then be used for internal alchemy as well the community around me.

I enjoyed playing like a child and jumping between rocks today until my fear of heights kicked in.

I used my adult self to soothe my inner child and encourage my safety officer to allow the fun.

As I’m looking forward to the .unmaskedman facilitator training in October, I also did some modelling / representation at the same time.

Smiling on the seas.

In sandplay therapy a boat can symbolise a journey through the inner landscape with open water representing the unconscious, both individual and collective.

Spiritually, I welcome a new chapter of self discovery by trusting the space I created by leaving my 9-5 role recently will turn into material opportunities.

“The Four Agreements,” by Don Miguel Ruiz, presents a set of principles based on ancient Toltec wisdom that can lead to personal freedom and happiness.

The four agreements are:
Be Impeccable with Your Word,
Don’t Take Anything Personally,
Don’t Make Assumptions,
Always Do Your Best.

These agreements offer a path to transform one’s life by breaking free from self-limiting beliefs and negative patterns.

I imagine this will be a challenging read but a welcome update on the effects of boarding on girls, intimate and sibling relationships, military family boarders and ex-boarder therapists.

Congratulations and his team of writers - many of whom I trained with and have already learned much from.

Gazing at the fire on a camping trip last weekend.

Whilst new brothers took Level 1 .unmaskedman and new facilitators were trained .club I was with my son in the woods for some bonding in nature.

We cooked at our communal fire, shared stories, jokes and poems, built a den to sleep in, a fire to keep us warm and played lots of games.

Many thanks to and his merry band of

Having been introduced to through a staff day Achieving for Children I tried it out with some children in school sessions. It’s a lovely mindfulness exercise.

Close your eyes and share a visualisation or calming breath work with one hand on the edge of a piece of paper. With the other hand, draw freely around the page, trusting yourself and listening to when your body is ready to stop.

Open your eyes and find intersections of lines which you fill in to take away any hard edges. Then fill in the gaps with whichever colours you are drawn to.

Slowly a picture or story starts to emerge which opens up a nice piece of discussion around what the child experienced during the process and what the result is.

For me, I see an elephant in this first image and a van in the second. What do you see and what might it mean for you or me?

Loss of sleep can increase our risk of cancer and heart disease, weaken our immune system, cause metabolic imbalances and add to weight gain.

Getting enough sleep not only helps our bodies but also allows us to dream. Through our dreams we can process events into long-term memories, change our emotions to situations, make decisions and in some cases reduce symptoms of PTSD.

Today, on my birthday, I want to honour The Unmasked Man weekend I have just attended. I was held skilfully by the facilitators whilst I explored the four masculine archetypes of Lover, Warrior, Magician and King. I also connected with a new band of brothers who embodied healthy masculinity and witnessed me with love.

Low cost counselling & psychotherapy

Garden of Eadon is the practice name for counselling and psychotherapy with Alexander Gray. As a psychotherapist-in-training, working towards UKCP accreditation, I can offer low cost counselling. I use an integrative approach to create a warm, safe place for exploration and expression. This allows me to fully witness my clients and work with what they present, rather than any judgements I or society might have. Underpinning my practice is the belief that we are made up of mind, body and soul. Our essential qualities can be covered over by the stress of life and our environment. Our work is to reveal the soul nature underneath and find ways to heal and nourish the true self. Specialist areas include focusing on su***de, divorce, death, bereavement, grief and loss. I am particularly interested in trauma work and how we can release it from our bodies. I am comfortable with what some clients can find embarrassing such as body issues, eating disorders and sexual fantasies. Garden of Eadon may be of particular interest to students, those new to therapy, ex-boarders or travel and tourism professionals struggling with the effects of COVID-19 on the industry.
