The nature of private practice is inherently solitary.
Therapists are trained to provide psychological containment for the distress of their clients. However, it is functionally impossible to sustain this indefinitely without a release valve.
The accumulation of vicarious trauma is often silent. If left unchecked, it gradually erodes the resilience required for effective clinical judgement.
We regard supervision as a form of professional hygiene rather than an administrative obligation. It allows the practitioner to metabolise the residual emotional content of their caseload.
