I am an advanced clinical massage therapist specialising in deep relaxation treatments, stress reduction, and addressing injuries and chronic pain. My aim is to give the highest quality of care to every client, whether that means creating a bespoke ongoing treatment plan or designing more ad hoc sessions to meet your needs on a given day. I enjoy working with clients from all kinds of backgrounds

to address their specific concerns. Whether it’s unwinding after a hard week, treating yourself to well-deserved me-time, targeting areas of pain/injury, or as a cornerstone of your general wellness regime, massage has huge potential to improve your quality of life. To find out how I can help, book in for your first treatment (booksolo.co/emily), or get in touch to ask any questions or arrange a complimentary ten-minute Zoom chat. Before going mobile I completed a successful 6 month massage residency at Radio Salon, Coal Drops Yard, during which time I was featured as one of Country and Town House’s best massages in London. I am a massage volunteer at an NHS oncology centre and very excited to be volunteering at this year’s London marathon, too. NEW CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE: I am currently only accepting new male clients if they have been referred by existing clients or someone else I know; as soon as I work at a studio again I will be delighted to take on all new male clients, but this safety measure will be in place until then.

Myofascial release is INCREDIBLE for helping both body and mind let go. It’s a slow, gentle technique and is particularly effective for supporting chronic pain conditions, helping the body to release deeply held restrictions in a slow, safe manner. This cross-handed stretch is one of my favourites—it may look still on the surface, but beneath my hands, a world of activity is unfolding as the client’s fascia softens and unwinds. Fascia, the fascinating, sticky web of connective tissue found all throughout your body, wraps around muscles, bones, and organs, holding everything together and influencing how you move and feel.

Myofascial release works with this intricate network to free restrictions and encourage better mobility, reduce pain, and induce profound relaxation. It’s ostensibly subtle, but highly transformative in practice. I often wait until I’ve had a few sessions with clients before I introduce this work as the stillness can feel unfamiliar but in this kind of slow, gentle work magic can really happen.

If you’d like to try some myofascial stretches in your next session, just say the word!

What is coherent breathing, and why should you give it a go?

Coherent breathing is the practice which helps bring your nervous system into a state of balance. The practice is very simple: all it requires is breathing at a consistent, controlled pace of around 5-6 breaths per minute, with your inhalation the same length as your exhalation. This practice can lower stress, improve heart rate variability, and enhance your overall sense of calm and well-being.

5-6 breaths per minute is key because this rate matches the body’s natural ‘resonance frequency’, where your heart rate, blood pressure, and breath synchronise, improving circulation and reducing stress.

Coherent breathing engages the parasympathetic nervous system (your body’s “rest and digest” mode), promoting a deeper state of relaxation. As little as 5 minutes a day can help rebalance your nervous system and reduce stress.

To give it a go, simply breathe along to the music on this post which will time your breaths for you, so all you need to do is breathe in, breathe out, and relax ✨For my favourite longer coherent breathing bells, google Neil Tranter Coherent Breathing Bells to find his YouTube video or they can also be found on Insight Timer.

Clinical massage is closely related to sports, remedial and therapeutic massage. All of this forms of massage intend to go beyond a simple spa-style relaxation treatment, and to look into any issues you might be facing in body or mind and help you work on them.

The definitions of clinical, sports, remedial and therapeutic massage really all blend into one. In clinical massage, we begin with an in-depth consultation. This isn’t necessarily very long, but makes sure I have enough understanding of what’s going on for you in body and mind to be able to create the right treatment plan for you. I will then use techniques such as myofasical release, trigger point therapy, stretching, deep tissue massage and soothing effleurage to work on any pain you’ve been experiencing and to help you fully destress, unwind and reset.

Another key aspect of clinical massage is regular communication; whilst I’m always delighted and very flattered if my client falls asleep, in clinical massage it is less likely. This is because I will ask you to let me know when you can feel that I’m on any tender spots (trigger points) so that I can work into those areas to treat them. Massage therapists are very intuitive and we develop a ‘listening touch’, but you know your own body better than I ever could, and so your input is always invaluable during a clinical treatment. Some aspects of your massage will be more interactive than others and some stretches may involve active input from you, too. Of course, if you’re exhausted and all you want is to sleep, you can always let me know and I’ll be sure to let you drift off.

I would be happy to have my work described as clinical, sports, remedial or therapeutic massage. Increasingly, I actually prefer ‘remedial’ or ‘therapeutic’ because I think they have a gentler, more holistic sound. All of my treatments have relaxation at their core and I believe that allowing the mind to let go is a core tenet of the most effective bodywork.

Which do you think sounds the most appealing - ‘clinical’, ‘sports’, ‘remedial’ or ‘therapeutic’?

I started my massage business because I wanted to help others navigate both physical and emotional pain. Having experienced severe, very physical, long-term anxiety symptoms myself, I have a deep understanding of how mind and body interact with each other, and how mental and physical discomfort exacerbate one another.

Through therapy, yoga, exercise and massage, I have drastically reduced my anxiety. When I was a teenager, Alexander Technique and yoga helped my dad overcome repetitive strain injury caused by his computer programming job. Through these experiences I have seen first hand how transformative complementary therapies can be.

Massage, in particular, can offer incredible relief, easing both the body and mind. My mission is to create a safe, welcoming space where people can find genuine relief, feel truly heard, and improve their well-being, especially during life’s most challenging moments.

On Fridays, from 8 - 2, I work at Clinical Massage London, a beautiful treatment space in Stoke Newington; the rest of the week, I work in an archive (keeping my previous skillset engaged), and as a mobile massage therapist, and as a mobile massage therapist, travelling to clients’ houses so that they can destress, unwind and reset without setting foot outside.

Find the links in my bio to book either in clinic or at-home massage treatments.

Mobile massage is a godsend if you work from home. A moment of centring before you start the working day? Some ringfenced me-time in your lunch break? Yes please!

I will always try to get to you if I can. Message me your postcode to check.

As well as Highbury, Islington, Hampstead, Camden, Dalston, Shoreditch, Clapton, Hackney and Holloway, I regularly go to Barnsbury, King’s Cross, Homerton, Stoke Newington, Kentish Town and other nearby places. I usually use the overground to get around, so if you’re a little further afield but near an overground station we should be able to make it work.

Did you know it’s possible to have a pregnancy massage lying on your front?

Generally, pregnancy massage is performed with you in a side-lying position with plenty of pillows and cushions to prop you up comfortably. At Clinical Massage London, our purpose-designed bolstering system means that even in the third trimester you can receive massage prone, which may find a huge relief. Not to mention offering you a little variety in how you can position yourself!

The bolstering system is especially comfortable for anyone suffering from pelvic discomfort or pain, taking pressure off this region and allowing the body to fully relax into the treatment.

Pregnant? Come try it! The entrance Clinical Massage London is located at the rear of 81 Stoke Newington Road, but Prince George Road is where you’ll find the entrance! It’s easy to get to from Dalston, Stoke Newington, Islington, Hackney and all surrounding areas; it’s also well connected by bus and overground for those slightly less nearby.

Of course, if you’d prefer to receive your treatment in side-lying we’re happy to offer this, too, and this lovely position is how my mobile pregnancy treatments are performed too :)
