💧Did you know that the colour of your child’s swimming costume could play a part in saving their life?

👉🏼 Usually, when we choose swimming costumes for our kids we go for comfort and age-appropriate style but we should also be taking colour into account too.

Here’s why…

🔹Aquatic safety experts have carried out a test to see what colours are most visible in a pool should your child find themselves under the surface.

🔹The top photo in each section is the fabric underwater, and the bottom photo is the fabric with surface agitation.

🔹As you can see, the two least visible colours are white and light blue and the best, most visible colours are neon pink and neon orange.

🔹 advise against choosing the darker colours as they could be mistaken for shadows, dirt or leaves at the bottom of a pool.

🔹Of course, the most important thing to remember is to ALWAYS supervise your children when they are around water. But dressing them in bright colours might help keep them even safer.

It’s set to be a hot week! Here are our top tips for keeping cool in a heat wave when you’re pregnant!

🥵Cool your pulse points
Get a cold flannel and put it on:
- the back of your neck
- behind your elbows and knees
- the inside of your wrists
- the top of your feet
- the insides of your ankles
- your inner thighs

🥵Get a paddling pool
No need to wait for your little one to arrive – an accompanying ice-cold mocktail will make the whole experience even better! And the bonus is that you’ve got it ready for when your little one to splash around in next summer!

🥵Spray bottle
Get yourself a spray bottle, fill it with cold water and give yourself a spritz every time you feel too warm. This is a great one for the commute.

🥵Frozen fruit snacks
Frozen berries a great snack to keep in the freezer. They’re a healthy way to keep cool in this weather!

🥵Open your loft hatch
To cool your house down on hot days open the loft hatch so the hot air can rise up to the loft and keep the bedrooms a little cooler.

🥵Close your curtains
Keep curtains closed during the day will also help to keep the house cool on hot sunny days.

Throwing a cover over the buggy when out and about with your baby might seem like an obvious way to keep them cool and protected from the sun on a hot day.

BUT did you know that covering your baby’s pram with a blanket on a hot day can significantly increase the temperature inside the pram, possibly to levels that could cause your baby to overheat.

Babies and young children are more vulnerable to the heat than older children and adults. That’s because they sweat less, their ability to regulate body temperature is less efficient and they can’t tell you when they’re feeling too hot. This puts them at increased risk of heat-related illness, dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

So, if you’re taking your baby out in a pushchair on a hot, sunny day:

- Make sure your pram is covered – preferably with an in-built sunshade (if your pram has one) or a light, well-ventilated, attachable one. These will keep baby shaded while ensuring adequate airflow.

- Dress baby in lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

- Give your baby more fluids than usual, to keep hydrated - this might mean extra breast or bottle feeds.

-  Avoid peak hours and stick to the shade as much as possible.

- Check on little ones often, feeling their skin to ensure they’re cool.

It is better for them to be covered by something light than to be in direct sunlight while it is hot but only for a very short period of time while you seek shade.

Warmer days are finally here!
And they bring warmer nights with them - which can bring new levels of anxiety about how to dress your baby at night to make sure they’re not too hot.
We’ve created this simple guide to help you decide what your little one might wear at night as the temperature changes. Remember, every baby is different, so use this as a guide rather than a strict rule.
A good way to check if baby is comfortable is by feeling their chest or the back of their neck. Hands and feet can often feel cool even when they’re perfectly cosy.
And remember, a cooler baby is usually safer than an overheated one.
Save this post for later and share with a fellow tired parent who’s also second-guessing bedtime outfits.
And remember to follow our friends for all things safe sleep.

f you ever suspect a child has swallowed a button battery (those small round coin-sized batteries found in toys, remotes or watches), it’s important to act IMMEDIATELY.
These batteries can start reacting with body fluids and damage tissue within hours, and it should always be treated as a medical emergency.
Always call 999 or get straight to A&E if you even suspect a child may have ingested one.
While you’re on the way to hospital the guidance now is that if the child is over 12 months old, giving them 2 teaspoons of honey every 10 minutes (up to about 6 doses) may help slow the chemical reaction and protect the throat and oesophagus until medical care can be given.
This is only recommended if it’s immediately available and shouldn’t delay getting emergency help.
Important:
Do NOT give honey to children under 1 year old due to the risk of infant botulism.
Honey is a temporary measure only – it does not replace urgent medical assessment and treatment.
This is brand new guidance in the UK so please share this post with your parent friends to update them.

A mum shared to help raise awareness of the dangers of magnets.

She received a phone call from her child’s school to tell her she needed to take her child to hospital because she was experiencing abdominal pain.

Thanks to a widely shared Tik Tok trend, the child and her friend thought it would be cool to make it look like they had a tongue piercing.

Her daughter put a magnet on the top and the bottom of her tongue to see what it would look like. Her friend asked her to lift her tongue up to see the underneath and she accidentally swallowed them.

Why is swallowing magnets so dangerous?
Swallowing magnets can be extremely dangerous because they can attract each other through the walls of the intestines.

If multiple magnets get stuck in different parts of the intestines or bowels, they can pinch together, causing serious damage like perforations or blockages. It’s really scary because this can lead to very serious complications if it isn’t dealt with quickly.

That’s why if a child swallows any magnets, it’s vital to get medical help fast.

Lots of toys for young children contain magnets so it’s important to only buy from reputable, trusted brands that have undergone UK safety testing standards. Look for the UKCA or CE mark.

Thankfully the child in question recovered without requiring surgery or the magnets causing any damage internally as they stayed together but it could have been a very different story.

Thank you so much to this mum (who wished to remain anonymous) for sharing their story and image with us to help warn other parents.

If your baby ever cries inconsolably and you can’t calm them, check if it could be a hair tourniquet.

A hair tourniquet, which occurs when a hair or other fibre, such as synthetic thread becomes tightly wrapped around most commonly a toe, and occasionally a finger, ge****ls, or other body parts. The hair or fibre can cut off the circulation to the appendage and damage the nerves, skin tissue and function of that body part.

Hair tourniquets are rare, but it is a medical emergency that needs to be identified and treated promptly to prevent any long-term damage to the tissue.

They are generally seen in infants and toddlers and who can’t tell you what’s wrong. If your little one becomes very upset or they’re not acting themselves it is worth having a look around fingers, toes and ge****ls to make sure they do not have a hair tourniquet.

Look out for swelling, redness or an indentation in the appendage and if you find something seek medical attention immediately.
