Posture. What differences can you see between these two photos?

Posture isn’t everything of course but often these snap shots alongside some objective testing and subjective discussion can tell us a few things about the strategies someone is currently using to manage gravity and move their bodies.

Zoe () is currently working with Lenny to get stronger.

Building strength and improving posture don’t have to be in opposition of each other.

Through carefully considered exercise selection and even more importantly correct ex*****on of those exercises, we can often kill two birds with one stone.

In the 4 weeks between these photos we can see:

▪️The shoulder blades are less winged and sitting more flush against the rib cage.

▪️The pelvis is less anteriorly tilted.

▪️Both of these things are accompanied by front ribs that are less flared (not shown).

▪️We can also see there is less visible rotation through the thorax and pelvis (although still some way to go here).

Essentially the overarching difference between these two photos is the amount of extension the Zoe on the right is in compared to the Zoe on the left.

Less extension = more relaxed.

More relaxed = more ability to tolerate stress in the form of strength training without getting injured or over-training.

Applying PRI Principles to your strength training doesn’t have to be complex.

We are currently working on reducing Saya’s rib flare on the front and aiming to bring her pelvis into a more neutral position.

So a little tweak to her set up for Dumbbell Bench Press helps support that goal.

By bringing her feet up onto the wall she doesn’t have to think about trying to keep her ribs down and not overly extending through the spine.

Remember, position drives function.

Instead she can just focus on moving the load and linking her breathing with the movement.

The exhale through her mouth as she pushes the weight up helps to give her a better engagement through her obliques, thereby furthering her front rib compression.

Once that becomes a bit more intuitive we can begin to layer on more complexity (introducing hamstrings, adductors, alternating press, etc).

However for now, this is a great starting point.

The new Body Music playlist has dropped! 🙌

We know how important creating the right setting is for the detailed work we doing during our classes.

Limiting distractions, heightening focus and facilitating an environment that allows you to properly turn your attention inward.

We’ve had some good feedback on them so far and that’s why we’ve decided to make it a monthly thing from now on.

Kind words indeed from professional rugby player

We’ve been working with athletes across the board in a tonne of disciplines; professional rugby and football players, world class powerlifters, yoga teachers and recreational runners, cyclists and gym goers.

And we’ve noticed a couple of common themes:
1) these people all live for their sport or activity in one way or another
2) the more they do, the more their body seems to need them to stop or slow down
3) helping them to restore some movement options through our assessment and programming allowed them to get back to doing what they love, no holds barred

These people already have a full schedule of workouts and competitions/games. So they don’t necessarily need a full time trainer. But they do need to improve their posture, mobility and capacity so that they can be at their best for their sport.

That’s why we’ve created the athlete package; a combination of assessment, basic programming and follow up sessions designed for the athlete who just needs to know how to move a little better.

So, whether you’re a professional athlete or you just live for your cycles at the weekend or mid week HIIT sessions, this one might just be for you.
