What a joy to catch up with friends and esteemed colleagues across aesthetic nursing and medicine. Nights like these remind me how important it is to celebrate nurses - the compassion, precision and quiet excellence that underpin the safe, beautiful outcomes so many of us create every day 👩🏻‍⚕️💉🙏

Bringing so many brilliant minds into one room was invigorating; I’ll be heading into clinic next week re-energised, inspired and grateful for our community.

TGLDR: Cosmetic gadgets 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐧’𝐭 claim to treat medical conditions.

LED masks + at home devices are everywhere right now - but many ads are over-promising (and massively misleading!)

The UK’s regulator has banned multiple LED mask adverts for making unauthorised medical claims (like “treats acne/rosacea”) because the products aren’t registered as medical devices with the MHRA.

From my clinic chair, a bigger concern is safety for pigment-prone skin. If you have melasma or heat-sensitive pigmentation, certain light/heat exposures can worsen discolouration - something I’ve seen first-hand when people use at-home masks without guidance. Dermatologists have also raised the same caution in recent coverage.

My take:
 ✔️ Home devices are a nice-to-have, not a cure. ✔️ Be sceptical of medical claims and always check registration/clearance. ✔️ If you have melasma, darker skin tones, or active skin disease, don’t self-experiment - speak to a medical professional to create an at-home plan together that won’t trigger flare-ups.
