This is me, officially signing off now for a few weeks.
I have some pretty harsh surgery on Tuesday, which I’m not looking forward to, but it’s definitely needed, so I won’t be posting anything new.
I have a little content I’ve been storing up to keep my page alive whilst I’m off, but my diary is now closed until mid December, and I unfortunately won’t be responding to any messages or emails until I’m fit and well.

You may be wondering what I entered into this year’s competition, and the answer is, I didn’t.
I ran out of time and withdrew my piece.
I’d rather not enter than present something rushed that I didn’t totally love.
My younger son Logan also withdrew, as the size of cake required in his category was just too much.

But, my eldest son Kai, and his best friend Aleks did enter, and I’m overjoyed to say Kai received another bronze for his underwater scene, and Aleks won her first ever gold with her utterly adorable bird, book and buttons.

As always, I’m so incredibly proud of both of them, as they both have autism and struggle with self confidence and momentum to keep going. At every point, I encourage them both to just try, and they always blow me away with what they put on the competition table.

Kai’s piece was made entirely from Squires Kitchen modelling chocolate, and Aleks used Saracino wafer paper, pasta model, and pasta Scultura.
Both cakes were in the small decorative exhibit.

This year, I got to join the OUTSTANDING, and now Cake International award winning Sugar Screams team.
I was so nervous to be a part of something so well known, so big, and amongst such talent.

To be there is a huge honour, and I put so much pressure on myself to make a piece that wasn’t crap 😂
This is Hawksbee the Frankenmutt. Named after Francis Hauksbee, known for his work on electrostatic repulsion and attraction, which Doctor Frankenstein would have researched before creating his monsters.

He’s a mismatched combination of a border collie’s body and head, with part of a retriever face, a pigs ear, bat wings, and a leopard seal tail.
Surrounding him on his comfy bed, is discarded body parts no longer needed by the doctor, kindly fed to him as treats to snack on. There’s a jaw bone, a severed finger, and a rib bone. All finished with bits of flesh and clotted blood.

I also made a gruesome arm, complete with exposed tendons, bones and fat.
Tasty 😂

Everything was made using Squires Kitchen modelling chocolate.

Honestly I had so much fun making these horrible additions 😂

Thank you so much to everyone in the team for welcoming me in, and treating me like family.
You’re all so freakin talented, and I can’t wait to see what we all create next year!

Wow! What a weekend!!!
I’ve got so many pictures to share with you all, and they’re still coming in!

I want to say a huge thank you to my Cake International family, who make every year absolutely amazing.
Day one was my first time on stage. The Renshaw Baking cake offs was so much fun, and being alongside Oli The Choc was awesome.
Thanks for letting me interview the cakers and yourself 😂

Day two was a last minute change of plans! I was due to be with The Cake Decorating Company, but I was called upon to work backstage helping out all the amazing guests on the Squires Kitchen and Rainbow Dust Colours stage.
It was so lovely meeting Sims Sweets, ML Bespoke Cakes, Alice Davies from Karen Davies Sugarcraft (can’t seem to tag), and Juliet Sear.
You were all absolutely fantastic, and it was a joy to work with you all. I hope I helped make your time on stage run as smoothly as possible. 🥰
But I apologise for only getting pics of the back of you all 😂
Also thanks to Emily Hankins Cakes and Aimee Ford Ltd. I’ve already met you two nutters so I’m throwing in your tags for funsies 😂

Day three was meant to be my day off 😂😂😂
But we all know I never switch off and was thrown back in to help out.

Apologies for the radio silence. The signal has been atrocious in the NEC this year and WiFi is utterly pants!

WHAT A WEEKEND!!!!
Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone who came to support us for our live cake off!
We had a last minute emergency with a team member, meaning flour power had to drag some poor little unsuspecting flower artist to fill in for Debbie. Thank you so much to Natalie from Immaculate Confections for stepping in and being utterly amazing!
Unfortunately, we didn’t win the cake off, but we had so much fun on stage with Oli The Choc and wish the other teams the best of luck in the finals today!
If you’re around at 11am, go and watch them on the Renshaw Baking stage!

Secondly, a huge thank you to everyone who nominated me for the Cake International social media award this year.
Of course the gorgeous Javier from Lumas cake won, but it’s ok, we’re not bitter. I’ll just kick him under the table next time I see him.

Thirdly, I didn’t enter the computes year. I had so much going on that I decided not to push myself to create a piece of rushed work that I knew I wouldn’t be happy with, BUT, if you’ve been in the Sugar Screams Cakenstein exhibit, you’ll have seen my little Hawksbee the Frankenmutt laying under the desk.
It’s been such an amazing weekend and it’s not over yet! Today I’ll be swanning around enjoying the day off, so if you see me, come and say hi!

We’re doing last minute bits and bobs for Cake International tomorrow, and I can’t show you ANY OF IT!!!!

The first post of my ‘Lead up to Cake International’

The Cake Off!!!!!
On Friday 31st October at 11.00am myself, Flo Cheshire from Yes, it's cake. and Victoria White from Victoria White Cake Design will be competing in the Cake Off against The Cakeatiers, made up of Gavin, Steph and Sarah.

We will have just 45 minutes to decorate a two tier cake with a Halloween theme! 🎃
If we win the first heat we will then compete in the final and again we will have just 45 minutes to decorate a three tiered cake with a Christmas theme. 🎄

Good luck to the other teams and let battle commence 🧁
