Our Simulation Educator, Alasdair and Simulation Centre Manager, Amy, recently visited Miami for an Advanced Technology Course at Gaumard Scientific offices based in Dadeland 📍. The course enabled an in-depth look inside our simulation manikins and a deep dive into the software which controls them. While on the trip, they were also able to visit Miami-Dade College Medical campus, where they were able to draw on the expertise of the staff at the Miami-Dade simulation hospital and share knowledge together.

Last week Amy our Simulation Centre Manager, attended the attended the Moulage course!

Slide 1:🩸Laceration made with buildable wax, bruise make up, scab blood and runny blood.

Slide 2: Laceration with Sim Glass Shard and pus

Slide 3: Burn made with skin-safe silicone and charcoal

Slide 4: A range of blisters using Glycerine

Simulation Moulage!

Slide 1: Heart 🫀
This realistic heart moulage was created for an Anaesthetic Heart Simulation course. It was created using an anatomical heart model, dyed silicon and fake blood 🩸

Slide 2: Craniotomy 🧠
This craniotomy model shows skin, scalp, skull and brain! It was created for a craniotomy in-situ in theatres, it also actively bleed using small pipes connected to syringes! 💉

Slide 3: Spinal Surgery 🩻
To create the look of a spine during surgery, the vertebrae were individually carved from clay and sandwiched between silicon skin so that it could be visible after an incision was made! 👩‍⚕️
