DBT Online Group Page

DBT Online Group Page This page offers help and support to those who could benefit from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. We are now recruiting for an online DBT group.

DBT teaches a range of different skills that could help people who may be struggling with everyday life. DISCLAIMER: This is mainly a skills teaching group, not a crisis service. In the case of a crisis call 999, your local crisis team, your emergency GP, or the Samaritans 116 123. Liliya Korallo is a trained DBT specialist that has worked within the NHS and privately for many years. She has delivered many successful online DBT groups in the past and is currently looking to recruit people who would benefit from this therapy to start soon once we have a minimum of 6 members signed up. It will be co-facilitated by her assistant psychologist Andrew Theophani. Should you require a formal DBT assessment, please privately contact Liliya. DBT Online Group's Facebook Group members agree to the following guidelines:

1. Keep names of other peers and information obtained in the group confidential.
2. Validate each other, avoid judging each other, and assume the best about each other.
3. Respect ethnic, cultural, spiritual, political, gender & sexual differences.
4. Keep discussions related to DBT and building skillful means.
5. Refer to problem behaviours like self-harm, substance use, binge eating, etc. as Problem/Unhelpful Behaviours.
6. Refrain from tempting or encouraging each other to engage in Problem/Unhelpful Behaviours.
7. Refrain from participating in the group under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
8. Refrain from partnering in or supporting risky behaviours, crime, or drug abuse.
9. Refrain from discussing current or past target behaviours that could be passed onto others. Refer to individual therapy if you need to discuss this.
10. Refrain from forming relationships between other group members if they interfere with treatment.

“Save the kitten”
Another blog on behalf of a DBT client of mine who wished for me to share this with others. Relevant to those who place such high demands on themselves, often at the detriment of their own mental wellbeing.

Another story from a client who was willing to prioritise everyone in their life except for themselves, even a kitten in traffic!

'Say Sorry to the Pigeon.'
Read my first blog about a previous client who spent their life putting others before them, even a pigeon! It includes how we decided to treat this in our therapy and focused on setting clear boundaries to lead to a happier life. A good read for anyone who struggles setting up boundaries out of fear of disturbing others.
I think I've found the title for my future to-be-written book on therapy!

Hi all, hope you have been keeping well. I've been looking around for some good blogs about Borderline Personality Disorder which explains the condition clearly. Attached is one that gives a really good insight into this disorder and also asks us to reconsider possible negative attitudes that people may have about it

Exploring what BPD is, and shifting negative attitudes towards it.

Hi all. Below is some information about the structure of our DBT online group including the modules that we will be covering.
In DBT there are 4 main skills modules that we will be teaching, each one lasting 5 weeks. These are:
Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills = helping to understand what your needs are in relationships and developing the skills on how to effectively deal with others. This can include learning to become more assertive, how to make and maintain healthy relationships, and also how to deal with difficult people.
Emotion Regulation Skills = helping to understand your emotions and how they can affect your behaviour. This can include learning to stabilise intense emotions so that you don't act on them and learning the functions of different emotions.
Distress Tolerance Skills = helping to find healthy ways to deal with your emotions without becoming overwhelmed or engaging in Problem Behaviours. This can include learning to develop alternative behaviours that immediately reduce emotional distress so that you can make more wise decisions about what to do.
Mindfulness Skills = helping to focus your mind and attention on the present in a healthy way. This can include relaxing the mind and body to take care of yourself in the present moment and stop yourself from becoming overwhelmed with intense emotions and acting in a harmful way.
