Does your child find reading and writing exhausting? Have they struggled with learning to ride a bike or play racket sports?

The root cause may be an active ANTR reflex. By switching off this reflex, you will see a huge improvement in not only their school work, but also in their enjoyment of, and ability to play, sports as well! 🏸 🎾

Swipe across to see which other challenges can present themselves when the ATNR reflex stays active!

Don’t get me wrong, getting a diagnosis has a plethora of benefits and can bring about peace of mind. However, sometimes we put people in a box and stick a label on them. Don’t let the label define who they are, rather see it as “they are experiencing X right now”, and remember they have the ability to change and grow.

Generally we can also end up labelling children as “naughty, angry, rude, shy, stubborn etc.” If you say it enough times to them, the label sticks and that’s now not only how we see the child, but also what they start believing about themselves. Switch labelling them to labelling the action, and give them the opportunity make better decisions next time. Children, as well as teenagers, need reminding that they’re loved regardless of their behaviour, as they try to navigate all the big emotions that they’re holding within.

Tend to experience that “deer in the headlights” feeling regularly? An active FPR reflex is probably at the root of it!

At the Rhythmic Healing Clinic we see lots of this. The good news is that this reflex can be switched off through simple rhythmical movements. Contact us to find out more!

Here's a shout-out to your brain and how adaptable it is! 🧠

Did you know your brain has plasticity, so it's able to change and adapt throughout your life.

That means it can reorganise pathways, create new connections - essentially it can be rewired.

Anxiety, ADHD, Dyslexia… so many challenges that we face daily, shift when we start targeting the foundation (the brain!) rather than just the outward symptoms.

Your brain is absolutely phenomenal and has so much more potential than we give it credit for!

School should be an environment of enjoyment, learning and growth! It is where we make friends, play, develop and hone the skills that we will need in adulthood.

However if your child’s primitive reflexes are still active, rather than school being a happy place; it can turn into a negative and stressful environment.

It can be difficult to sit still and concentrate, retaining information is tough, keeping coordination during sports is difficult and socialising and making new friends is a chore. This is a reality for many children; yet it needn’t be!

Primitive reflexes are movement patterns that we need during our infancy in order to develop. They teach our body the patterns that are needed for us to move in an easy, coordinated way.

As we grow, they should switch off (integrate) or develop into adult reflexes. However, if they stay active, then the brain is unable to mature as expected, leading to the difficulties such as the ones detailed above.

RMTi movements work with the body to switch off the primitive reflexes that are still active, enabling brain connections to strengthen and mature so that your child can start thriving, rather than just surviving!

Struggling to think clearly when you’re angry, upset, scared or overwhelmed? That’s because your limbic system is in control and so you’re being fueled by emotions, rather than logic. 🤯

To easily bring yourself back into ‘thinking mode’ gently hold your ESR points (as shown in the video) until you feel a pulse under your fingertips or you feel ready to let them go.

You can hold them yourself, or have someone else hold them for you. The pressure used should be as if you were pressing onto your eyelids (super gentle!).

You’ll notice the red haze has suddenly dispersed and you’re ready to think clearly again. 🧠

It’s a great tool for all ages and can be carried out multiple times a day!

Love these!

The amygdala is there to protect use from danger, however at the moment I'm seeing it in constant play in so many adults and children. It's mentally, emotionally and physically draining to be in constant survival mode!

Take a moment to assess yourself and see who's in-charge of your brain right now; your pre-frontal cortex or your amygdala?

So my paper on primitive reflexes that was published in November has almost 10,000 views already. In science that is a huge number with a very large impact. It would seem there is a lot of growing interest in the subject of primitive reflexes and hemispheric balance. This is the subject of my PhD so many more papers are on the way. Stay tuned !!

Have loved seeing the positive changes in my clients, who have in the past been struggling at school because of their retained primitive reflexes!

"Research suggests a link to neurodevelopmental disorders like dyslexia and ADHD; several studies have found that children diagnosed with ADHD are more likely than their peers to have retained primitive reflexes."

As babies explore their environment and the movement of their body, their brain neurons fire according to the sensory information received. Sensory information from sounds, touch, taste, site, smell, and vestibular & proprioceptive receptors are sent to the brain and movement is the result. As an infant the movement is automatic, known as primitive reflexes. The reflexes are initiated over and over by the response to sensory information coming into the brain.

Once the body does the movement with enough repetition the reflex becomes integrated and helps to grow more organized neural pathways in the brain ultimately leading to smooth, coordinated, independently controlled movements in an upright position.

The senses are crucial to integrating primitive reflexes and in turn, reflexes help to integrate the senses. They work hand-in-hand. The "core" primitive reflexes are the ones specifically related to sensory systems such as vestibular, touch, auditory, and visual. These are the reflexes majority of children with learning, sensory, and/or behavioral challenges will need to improve for optimal functioning.

Moro, ATNR, STNR, and TLR are associated with the vestibular system.
Moro and Spinal galant are associated with the tactile system.
Moro, TLR, Galant, and ATNR are associated with the auditory system.
Moro, TLR, ATNR, and STNR are associated with the visual system.

Without one you cannot improve the other. Sensory integration and primitive reflex integration should always be done together for optimal results.

There is so much that we have to master before we can conquer reading, writing and maths!

When children are finding academics difficult or little ones aren’t reaching their developmental milestones it’s time to start looking at the foundation of our development - our reflexes :)
