3 things you could do this week to relieve your pregnancy back pain.

Do these three things, and you’ll soon see some relief from your back pain...

1. Release your pelvic floor
Exercises like placing a soft therapy ball just inside your sit bones and allowing your pelvic floor to release around it.
Or mobilising your hips with 90-90 hip stretches can help to take the pressure off the lumbar spine.

2. Diaphragm and rib release techniques
Thoracic rotation exercises and cat-cows allow for more space for the growing uterus and mobilise the upper lumbar spine.

3. Book in with an Osteopath specialising in pregnancy pain
They’ll know exactly where to work on your body and can diagnose your problem so you better understand what’s going on.

India Wilde is our Pregnancy Pain expert at Laura Tilson Osteopathy. She is now available in the South Wimbledon and Surbiton clinics.

Book your appointment with India. Just message us here or call on 020 7206 2625.

Is your baby struggling to feed? 🤱

If you’re having trouble latching, or your baby’s movement is restricting feeding, then this could be a sign of muscle tension.

Here are some signs to look out for:

👶 Your baby prefers to face one way more than another

👶 Latching is painful

👶 You can’t get a good latch on one breast compared to the other

👶 Very short or very long feeds

👶 Your baby struggles to open their mouth widely/gape before the latch or its asymmetrical

Recognise any of these signs?

As a team of Pediatric Osteopaths, we would recommend seeing an IBCLC (Lactation Consultant) if you have any feeding difficulties.

You may find one working in your hospital team or as part of your local feeding support team.

More information may be available in your baby’s red book or any leaflets your health visitor gave you.

This is because breastfeeding issues can be complex, and IBCLCs study for years to be able to give you a diagnosis and management plan for feeding.

Many lactation consultants have completed CPD training to look out for muscle tension patterns.

If you feel, or you’re told, your baby has movement tensions or restrictions – then a musculoskeletal assessment from a Paediatric Osteopath – like one of our team! – can help.

Book in an Initial Consultation for a full musculoskeletal assessment with us at one of our clinics. We’re based in Battersea, Surbiton and South Wimbledon.

Just message us here, head to our website, or call us on 020 7206 2625 to find a time to suit you.

Does your stomach not feel right after giving birth? You’re not alone.

We have spoken to so many women in the clinic who have experienced pain or pulling or changes in sensation in their abdomen after their pregnancy. 🫄

Not through just on the ‘surface (e.g. in the abdominal muscles or linea alba), but DEEPER.

They say things just don’t feel right since their baby was born.

Is this you?

Keep reading to find out the why – and what you can fix it! 👇

This is a normal adaptation to the changes which happen in pregnancy.

After birth, it’s normal for the organs to resume their position and function.

But sometimes you might feel that tensions in the connective tissues from the pregnancy, medical interventions or the birth have affected your body’s ability to change and adapt.

So if you’re experiencing discomfort or pulling – or things just don’t feel the same! – the answer may lie in these connective tissues.

Visceral Osteopathy aims to release tensions through the abdomen.

These gentle techniques work with the body to gently unwind tension patterns.

So your tummy feels more comfortable again!

Pop us a message if you have any questions.

Book an appointment with our Visceral Osteopaths, Gaby, Karen or Madeleine by heading to our website or calling 020 7206 2625.

💙 We often see mums who bring their newborns or babies in to see our osteopath team, and so often, they don’t book in for themselves.

Your baby is cared for.
But, remember, you have been through something transformative too.

Postpartum healing isn’t just about “bouncing back.” Your body has carried, birthed and adapted in ways that deserve time, support and care. You deserve to be held, treated and listened to, not just once things feel unbearable.

Our clinics are set up with this in mind.

Bring your baby with you. Feed them, cuddle them, pause when you need to.

We will make it work. You don’t have to wait until later. 💙

A message from Maddie on her last day before maternity leave 💕

“With a full heart, I want to thank all the families who have trusted me over the years. 🤍
It has been a true honor and privilege to be part of your lives during such a special and delicate moment—the arrival of a new baby. 👶✨ Being able to support your little ones and walk alongside your families has meant more to me than words can express.
Now it’s my turn to take a step back and dedicate time to my own growing family as I begin my maternity leave. 🤍👶
I send each of you a big hug and my deepest thanks for your trust and support. You will be in wonderful hands—the team of Laura is truly phenomenal, and I know they will continue to care for you with the same dedication and heart. ✨
Wishing all of you health, peace, and many beautiful moments with your little ones. 🌿🤍
See you soon! 💫
Maddie”

I spent last weekend on a 3 day course deepening my knowledge of the face and learning lots of new techniques to improve the health of the nose, facial sinuses, mouth, eyes and ears.

The techniques could really help symptoms of
- Face pain
- Sinus pain
- Orthodontic treatment
- Supporting optimal growth of the face, jaw and airways
- Eye movement issues
- Nerve palsies
- Glue ear and tinnitus

It was particularly special because I have been waiting for over a decade to be able to leave my children for this long and hand over the mental load of childcare on a school day to someone else (my amazing husband). It felt like a real treat to be able to focus and immerse myself in the course fully finally.

It was also wonderful because I was reunited with old friends and made lots of wonderful new friends who I hope to see again soon!

I’ve already applied so many principles that I learnt to my practice this week and could see and feel the difference this has made to my patients.
