🌟 "Beyond Diagnosis: Therapeutic Pathways for Supporting ADHD Individuals" 🌟

Jointly with my dear friend and colleague of many years Dr Floriana Reinikis at Oasis Psychological Services

Are you a psychologist, therapist, coach, or mental health professional seeking to deepen your psychosocial and therapeutic skills in supporting adult ADHD individuals? We have put together over 40 years of clinical experience working with ADHDers and neurodiverse individuals, in creating this workshop.
Based on the adaptation of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), this workshop is meticulously designed to address the nuanced challenges that ADHDers have had to face all their life.
Floriana and Laura, Clinical Psychologists and Therapists, understand that one-size does not fit all and each individual brings a unique narrative of strengths and difficulties. Through years of experience, they have honed effective therapeutic strategies tailored specifically for ADHD individuals.
🌟 Provide compassionate support to your client post-diagnosis, collaboratively exploring the challenges they experience and identifying areas for growth.
πŸ› οΈ Master practical and therapeutic techniques for overcoming ADHD-related obstacles related to executive functioning differences and co-occurring mental health problems so often associated with ADHD
🀝 Cultivate a neuro-affirming therapeutic environment of understanding and support
This is an online one-day workshop, with the first session scheduled on the 7th of June.

Hats off to Harry here.

Regardless of whether we approve of his choices or not (not really trying to discuss this), he is really making an important point here:

πŸ‘‰ Intergenerational Trauma exists
πŸ‘‰ it affects people deeply
πŸ‘‰ it shapes the way we are and relate to others
πŸ‘‰ it is painful: we can get stuck in certain automatic maladaptive patterns of behaviour, feelings and emotions which are replayed over and over again, intergenerationally.

But the β€˜cycle of pain’, as Harry calls it, can be broken.

And this starts with developing Self-Awareness, Self-Acceptance, Self-compassion and Committed action (doing what matters).

I love what Harry is really telling us:

❣️as a responsible parent, he is on a journey to heal himself and his future generations, by focusing on what really matters to him and his family, by acting with his children’s well-being and their best interest in mind.

To me (regardless of everything else one can think of Harry), this is inspirational❣️

The Duke of Sussex says he does not want to pass on the "suffering" of his parents to his children.

Mental Health Week: Work Stress

When working in CAMHS with children affected by trauma, I used to use a therapy model called KidNet (a narrative therapy approach); when drawing the timeline for each child, we used to use flowers to indicate positive life events (protective factors), and stones to indicate traumatic events.

Let's remind ourselves that we all as adults have had some flowers and stones in our lives (and might still have), and these have influenced who we are and the way we respond to events around us. When we go to work, we bring the whole of ourselves and for some of us, the challenges of a stressful work-environment can be more challenging then for others.

A question I am often asked is why on my website I link trauma and stress together, and what do I mean by "Helping people to understand the Layers of Stress" and why this is linked to "Developing Resilience".

This is because when working with people who experience chronic stress and work stress, we meet the person as a whole. Which means understanding what happens to them in the present, in light of the multilayered facets of who they are, with their many HOW, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and WHY:

πŸ‘‰ HOW they have become to be the person they are and WHY (their survival mechanisms)
πŸ‘‰ WHAT triggers them in the present (connecting Body & Mind, by understanding HOW their Autonomic Nervous System responds to stress and HOW we can befriend it)
πŸ‘‰ WHERE is that coming from (was there any Traumas / ACE?)
πŸ‘‰ WHAT they can do about it (learning new strategies & tools)
πŸ‘‰ ... and MUCH MORE ....

This enables us to 'Develop Stress Resilience', reframed as a combined set of skills which help us live a fulfilling life in the presence of adversities (i.e. Psychological Flexibility, Awareness, Acceptance, Connection, Ability to act in line with own values and own vision of life, to name a few).

I would love your thoughts on this πŸ™

Today I was listening to an audible by a well-known coach and the topic about committing to meaningful actions came up.

Although as a clinical psychologist my take on emotional and psychological well-being is different from his, I felt very aligned with on one main point.

On the importance of:
πŸ‘‰ tuning in and becoming aware of our own needs,
πŸ‘‰ finding purpose, doing what matters
πŸ‘‰ bringing intention to what we do
πŸ‘‰ committing to actions that are aligned with our values and goals

Hence, my infographic. As a reminder to me and now possibly to you about the fact that every small steps that we take counts, and that bringing meaning to our actions cannot but increase our fulfilment in our lives.

Because developing resilience is an act of daily kindness to ourselves.

Did you know that Overthinking is reported to one of the main contributing factors to the maintenance of stress?

In fact, when we are under stress, we can often end up getting stuck in loops of negative thoughts and negative scenarios that we create in our heads, often ending up catastrophyzing and spiralling from one thought to another.

Making things worse. A bit like a Domino effect.

This is very hard and can lead to increased stress and burnt out.

❌ But it does not need to be this way. The Overthinking / Stress loop can be stopped ❌

There are strategies that can help with this and I have summarised the ones that people find most effective in my Free Guide / Workbook below.
