Obstructive sleep apnoea and orthodontics: Can common sense save us from ourselves?

Interest in obstructive sleep disorders has led to much speculation within the dental profession, making it difficult to separate fact from fiction. This presentation will be a succinct review of published literature and recent clinical trial data, providing a clear picture of the evidence base on the topic. The relationship between sleep-disordered breathing and craniofacial growth and development, as well as the current evidence of managing paediatric sleep disorders with dentofacial orthopaedics, will be directly addressed.

CBCT in Orthodontic Planning: Who should we scan?

This lecture will highlight the balance between diagnostic benefit and patient safety, with a particular focus on children as a radiosensitive group. It will also address the challenges of measurement error and reliability in CBCT-based research, emphasizing the need for rigorous evaluation of inter- and intra-rater agreement.
Recent advances in AI-assisted segmentation will also be discussed, as they offer potential advantages in diagnostics, save time, and can be integrated into digital orthodontic planning. However, the accuracy of such tools is limited by the quality of the input data, and AI should be regarded as a support rather than a substitute for clinical expertise.

🗓️ Join our panel of internationally recognised experts on Tuesday 21st April

For a live debate, Roadmap to best practice: Aligners and braces across theory, evidence and clinical reality, from four complementary viewpoints:

Theoretical foundations

Vincenzo D’Antò (Italy) will examine what distinguishes aligners and fixed appliances in terms of design, biomechanics, force systems, and biological response — and at which mechanical, biological, and clinical levels these systems truly diverge.

Clinical perspective: fixed appliances

Ute Schneider-Moser (Italy) will discuss why braces remain her preferred choice in many patients, the clinical situations in which fixed appliances may outperform aligners, and the limitations of aligner systems in everyday practice.

Clinical perspective: aligner therapy

Thor Henrikson (Sweden) will outline why aligners play a central role in his clinical approach, where they may offer clear advantages over braces, and which limitations of fixed appliances influence treatment planning.

Evidence and methodology assessment

Dalya Al Moghrabi (Saudi Arabia) will explore how orthodontic treatment approaches can be compared holistically, examining the current evidence on the effectiveness of aligners versus fixed appliances across key treatment outcomes. She will also consider which treatment modality may be superior from the patient’s perspective, including aspects such as experience, expectations and perceived value.

The session qualifies for 2 Continuing Professional Development credits (CPD).

Radiology in Orthodontics – Past Achievements, Current Challenges and Emerging Innovations

This lecture will take listeners on a journey spanning the very first achievements of radiology in orthodontics to current cutting-edge innovations. We will review the major achievements that built the foundation of orthodontic radiology and will examine the challenges and pitfalls faced in daily practice and research, with special emphasis on the application of AI in diagnostic imaging. We will explore the direction CBCT and other 3D imaging methods are heading towards, including model integration, and identify how these innovations are already redefining clinic practice and research.

The Airway and Three-dimensional Imaging: Much Ado About Nothing?

The advent of three-dimensional imaging allows us to see and to measure more. We know that form and function don’t always correlate. So, how can we use this information to better our practice? Do we need to see and measure more or are we approaching overload and are we risking over-diagnosis and over-treatment? These issues will be addressed in the keynote talks focusing on CBCT and the airway.

Registration is open, and you can benefit from discounted early-bird rates until 13 April 2026!

Artificial Intelligence in Orthodontics

This presentation explores the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern orthodontic practice. It outlines how AI can automate the analysis of radiographs, photographs, and intraoral scans to support diagnosis, treatment planning, and workflow efficiency. The lecture also examines AI-driven remote monitoring for early detection of treatment issues, improved patient compliance, and adaptive appliance production. Clinical experiences and current evidence are discussed, positioning AI as a supportive infrastructure that enhances—rather than replaces—clinical judgment.

High Tech, Low Tech, and the road in Between: Enthusiasm, Frustration, and Pragmatism in Orthodontics

This lecture retraces a two-decade professional journey in orthodontics — from early overconfidence and fascination with high-tech surgical tools, through the deep frustration of cases that seemed impossible to finish, and finally into the pragmatic, biologically grounded, and ethically conscious practice of today. Along the way, the narrative will explore how technological enthusiasm can both inspire and mislead, how the “black hole” of clinical frustration can ultimately lead to growth, and how embracing simplicity and biological fundamentals opens the door to meaningful progress.

🦷 Will you be joining us for our next live debate?

💻 EOS Live Debate - Roadmap to best practice: Aligners and braces across theory, evidence and clinical reality.

Aligners or braces?
Both are integral to contemporary orthodontics. Both are supported by evidence. Yet fundamental questions remain:
- Do aligners and fixed appliances truly differ in their biomechanics and biological effects?
- Are their clinical outcomes comparable across all treatment dimensions?
- And when we choose one system over the other, are we guided by evidence, experience, or industry?

These questions will be explored in this webinar debate on Tuesday 21 April, 18:00-19:30 CEST, with the aim of moving towards practical, best-practice guidance grounded in science and real-world orthodontic care.

A panel of internationally recognised experts will address the topic from four complementary viewpoints.
