Whitney Cummings has made a career out of being unapologetically honest. Whether on stage, on a podcast, or on screen, she cracks open the uncomfortable and turns it into comedy gold. Behind her sharp wit, though, Cummings has spent much of her life quietly managing something far less laughable: debilitating migraine. Still, the 42-year old comedian, actor, writer, producer, showrunner, and podcast host has come to see her migraine disorder as not just a chronic health condition but as an unlikely guidepost.

On , Seamus shares his experience of living with both migraine and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD):
“I have been living with migraine with aura since I was in my teens. Living with ASD as well is challenging, and I often find that sensory overload brings on an attack. Bright lights, noise and anxiety are all triggers for me.”

Stress and routine changes are common migraine triggers, as well as aspects that can be challenging for neurodivergent people. If this is also your experience, Seamus suggests finding a way to address stress that works for you:
“I would recommend that people try to de-stress however they can – you could try taking up yoga or going for a walk.”

Of course, each person will experience both migraine and neurodivergence differently, and it’s important to recognise that migraine doesn't exist as an isolated condition. The more we talk about other conditions the more we can support people in the best way.

Our helpline is here for you – if you need information or support on any aspect of migraine, you can give us a call on 0808 802 0066 or get in touch online: https://migrainetrust.org/get-support/
