A fitting farewell for Fr David Barnes, Parish Priest at Saint Anselm and Saint Cecilia, Kingsway for 20 years. Fr David was a huge part of the community in Holborn and played a role in both local people's spiritual lives, as well as in their day to day, often seen walking his dogs around Lincoln's Inn Fields. Fr David was also highly regarded amongst his fellow clergymen in the Diocese of Westminster and beyond, all of which came to pray for him during his Funeral Mass, celebrated by Cardinal Vincent Nichols. He will be missed by us all at A France, the residents of Holborn and amongst his fellow priests.

Thank you to the students at Winton Primary School who very kindly helped to decorate our Islington branch window with their Christmas themed colouring in, a beautiful accompaniment to our annual Memory Christmas tree.

Starting to feel festive at Head Office. We were proud to support the Lamb's Conduit Street Christmas Street party, the day saw traders and local people come together for carols, chestnuts and mulled wine in support of small businesses along the street and charities such as Coram's Field's.

At 11am this morning, some of the team at Lamb's Conduit Street observed a minute's silence, commemorating those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The annual Remembrance Day acts as a reminder of those who have died during times of conflict, recalling the armistice signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918.
'Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.'

We were honoured to be part of the All Souls Day Commemoration at St Giles Cripplegate this evening. It was lovely to see so many local families in attendance. The service ended with the traditional placing of commemorative candles in the concourse.

Dear parishioners and friends.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

You may know that Camden Council is proposing some changes for Clerkenwell Road and surrounding roads, including Back Hill.
Details of the changes can be found on this link:
https://consultations.wearecamden.org/supporting-communities/clerkenwell/

When you open the link, the first YouTube clip summarises the plans.

Below we have noted what we believe are the two main changes that will affect St Peter's Italian Church and the Clubs – and what could be a way around them.

1. Stepped Cycle Lane.

Concern:
The proposed stepped cycle lane in Clerkenwell Road outside the Church will mean that funeral hearses and wedding cars will only be able to pick-up and drop-off by causing traffic to tail back, with consequent congestion and delays.

Proposed solution:
If the cycle lane outside the block that includes the Church remains “un-stepped” it would enable hearses and wedding cars to pull in whilst dropping off and picking up without causing tailbacks. This is working effectively at the moment.

2. Back Hill Parking

Concern:
The proposal to have 24/7 loading bays in Back Hill and double yellow lines will adversely affect parishioners coming to the Church for services in the evenings and on Sunday. Especially affected would be our disabled and older church goers who would have to park elsewhere, inevitably resulting in them having further to walk.

Proposed solution:
If the loading bay timings were left in line with existing CPZ times and double yellow lines left as single yellow lines, the impact on parishioners would be mitigated, without any major inconvenience to local businesses or residents.

It is important that as many people as possible make their feelings known via the online survey link which is at the bottom of the Camden site, but also noted here:
https://bit.ly/BackHillSurvey

The consultation closes on 11 March 2024 so we have little time.

Please share this post to as many people as possible asking them to complete the survey.

Thank you! Grazie!
