The International Physical Therapy Academy (IPTA) has been established to meet the growing need for standardized academic and training programs in physiotherapy. By offering top-notch postgraduate educational and training programs, it aims to advance the physiotherapy profession globally. The world's education plans had undergone a complete transformation following the COVID outbreak. As a result IPTA was formally founded in order to maximize the use of technology in physiotherapy education and to make these top-quality educational / training programs available to all physiotherapists internationally. The IPTA is the world's first fully integrated physiotherapy academy. The IPTA Boards are composed of highly skilled and experienced professionals from many different countries and specialties.

High-quality meta-analyses confirm that dry needling (DN) provides significant short-to-medium-term pain relief and functional improvement, particularly for myofascial trigger points.

However, current evidence suggests it is most effective as a 'window of opportunity' tool; it reduces pain temporarily to allow for more effective, long-term loading and exercise-based rehabilitation, rather than serving as a standalone cure .

Understanding the difference between Dry Needling and Acupuncture is essential for both clinicians and patients. While both techniques use thin needles, they are based on different clinical philosophies and therapeutic approaches.

Dry needling targets neuromuscular dysfunction and myofascial trigger points to improve movement and reduce pain, whereas acupuncture traditionally focuses on balancing energy pathways (meridians). Both approaches can support pain management, but the most appropriate method depends on the patient’s condition and the practitioner’s expertise.

What to expect after dry needling?

Mild soreness at the insertion site can occur and typically resolves within 1–2 days. Many patients report noticeable improvement in pain and mobility shortly after treatment. Depending on the condition and individual response, additional sessions may be recommended to achieve optimal outcomes.

Evidence-based practice, clear patient education, and proper clinical reasoning remain essential for safe and effective dry needling application.
