What Happens Next? A Simple Guide to Starting Testogel or Testavan at The GHC
Once a patient receives their first Private prescription for Testogel or Testavan, you may think, what’s next? Here’s how our process works.
Picking Up The Prescription
Patients take their private prescription to a pharmacy of their choice — with many finding that larger supermarket pharmacies like Tesco or Asda often offer the most affordable prices.
The initial supply covers the period while their GP reviews the shared-care agreement (this can take up to 12 weeks).
Applying Testogel/Testavan
For those prescribed gel-based testosterone, it’s normally applied once each morning, often just after showering for convenience.
Application areas can
include the:
• Upper arms
• Shoulders
• Inner thighs
• Lower abdomen
Moving Into Shared Care
After receiving their clinical letter, patients usually contact their GP about a week later to request their NHS prescription.
If shared care isn’t possible, GHC provides a simple route to request an ongoing private prescription
online.
Blood Tests And Follow-Up
The first follow-up appointment takes place 6 months after starting testosterone gel.
Patients arrange blood tests before booking this appointment and apply their gel 4 hours before the blood draw to ensure accurate results.
Booking The Follow-Up
Once their results are ready, patients book their follow-up consultation through our online system — keeping everything streamlined and easy to manage.
This structured pathway helps ensure testosterone gel therapy remains safe, consistent, and well-supported throughout a patient’s
care.
