Running shoe confusion, youโre not alone.
The research and development that goes into modern trainers is absolutely HUGE , we're talking millions spent on technology, materials, and biomechanics. But here's the problem: the market is absolutely flooded with choice, and it can be overwhelming! ๐โโ๏ธ ๐โโ๏ธ
My three top tips for choosing running shoes,
1๏ธโฃ Get properly fitted. Our feet change throughout the day and over time. What fit last year might not fit now. The widest part of the foot should sit in the widest part of the shoe, the longest toe should have enough space to prevent hitting the end of the shoe during a walk/run and the upper should accomodate spread as the feet expand when warm. As our feet heat up, they tend to swell. Try on shoes in the afternoon when your feet are slightly swollen (like they'll be during a run) is helpful.
2๏ธโฃ Match the terrain. Road running shoes aren't built for muddy trails. Your feet adapt to terrain, but your shoes should too! Match your shoes to your adventure for happy, healthy feet.
3๏ธโฃ Replace regularly. Most running shoes need replacing every 300-500 miles. Worn-out shoes = increased injury risk and foot problems.
My go-to running shops.
๐ฝ Runner's Need, Bluewater. Perfect when I know exactly what I'm looking for. Great selection and knowledgeable staff.
๐Run & Become, London Victoria. My choice for expert advice and incredible variety. These guys really know their stuff!
Remember: The most expensive shoe isn't always the best shoe for you. The right shoe is the one that fits your foot shape, running style, and specific needs.
If you have a foot problem thatโs stopping you from getting out running, book an appointment.
