The skin hooding over the eyelid and the eyelid itself act a little like a sash window with roman blinds, the two connected in a seesaw kind of way.
Lifting the closed window only (ptosis repair) lowers the blinds with more fabric (or skin hooding) showing.
Lifting the blinds alone (blepharoplasty) without dealing with a closed window, makes the window seem more closed.
Both need assessing in every upper lid surgery and if needed, both need correcting.
Ptosis surgery defines how open the window is.
Blepharoplasty defines the length of fabric showing.
The combination of ptosis repair and blepharoplasty on two eyes is tricky to get right and needs careful measurements and a lot of patience during surgery. But for those with that patience, it might well be the one of the most fun procedures to do.

I shared her early one-week result a few weeks ago.
Now at five weeks, things have settled further.
The eyelids continue to refine, with less swelling and a more natural contour.

The visible lateral scar lines in this case will soon look like a laughter line and then in a few months, I expect it to be invisible.

Healing, of course, varies from person to person, and these examples are simply illustrative.

Many of our patients don’t remain in London long enough for us to document their final results.

I still find it valuable to share early outcomes, as they offer a realistic sense of how things can look in the first few weeks after surgery, in this case at the three-week mark.

This one happens to be a good friend and we will miss her during her travels!

Three months on.
Earlier in the year I shared this patient’s early recovery.
Here is the final result at three months following an upper blepharoplasty ptosis and direct brow lift.

By this stage the swelling has settled, the scars are softening, and the excessive heaviness has improved no longer hiding her green eyes.

This account started as a marketing tool but soon developed into an educational tool too.

We spend a lot of time during consults describing all the stages of healing and how your eyes will look every week after surgery.

I like posting “in progress” results as it very much helps to make this process easier and less stressful for my future patients.

This way we can spend more time discussing eyelid design and nuances.

The bottom line is this: surgery might be a one day event, healing though takes time and the more prepared one is for it, the faster and easier it will be.
This is what an upper bleph typically looks like at four weeks. Often better, occasionally worse than this. There are visible signs. Helpful?

1 Week:
This post serves to highlight how things might look a week after a brow lift with upper blepharoplasty.
It also shows that:
❗️Bruising can track to the lower lid.
❗️A previously purposefully high tattoo might be worth adjusting with laser in a few weeks.
❗️Skin dimples might be visible for a few weeks
👍🏽 The temple hollowness really improves without fat injections (yes a little is oedema)
👍🏽 Outer eyelid openness which a blepharoplasty alone cannot deliver
