We divide the human face in imaginary ‘aesthetic units’ and these consist of parts of the face whose ageing affects one another.

I don’t really post patient testimonials and letters on here.
As touching as they all are to me, they don’t often come with much helpful information worth transmitting.
Occasionally though there’s an exception to be made, not because of its flattering words, but because it sheds so very precious light on the thinking and feeling of patients undergoing these procedures.
To me, this one read both deeply informative and beautiful.

Most of the skills we in this business have, we have learnt and practiced in reconstructive surgery: Eyes and faces affected by disease, trauma or tumours.
Aesthetic surgeons of the highest calibre will always have many years of this type of work in their CV (look for it).

Thyroid eye disease can profoundly alter the appearance of women’s eyes and eyelids, often in ways that feel sudden, unfair, and deeply distressing.
Beyond the very real functional impact on comfort, vision, and eye health, it can erode confidence and self-esteem, particularly for women who no longer recognise themselves in the mirror.
Results of this kind are often not perfect but it is a genuine privilege to be trusted to play a small part in restoring confidence, dignity, and quality of life.

Combined Upper eyelid ptosis repair and blepharoplasty:
The objective is to balance and symmetrise two inter-related elements: eyelid show and the vertical aperture of the eyes.
Evidence suggests that eyelid show (the amount of visible eyelid above the lash line) is even more critical to perceived symmetry than eye size itself, yet both must be addressed together.
The challenge is that elevating the eyelid during ptosis repair inevitably alters lid show, often disproportionately. This makes upper eyelid surgery a dynamic, highly calibrated process rather than a fixed manoeuvre.
I am very grateful to my patient and colleague for allowing me to use her case as an example and even more so for entrusting me with her eyes.

Psychometric and eye-tracking studies consistently show that during social interaction and conversation, our gaze is drawn primarily to the eyes.
Nothing seems to matter more on our face and this is probably why changes around the eyelids can feel so impactful, even when they are subtle.

When aesthetic eye surgery is done well, it helps subjects appear more welcoming, rested, attractive and familiar.
