πβοΈ Stay Sun Savvy This Summer! βοΈπ
Attention UK Health & Wellness professionals! As the temperature rises, it's crucial to prioritise sun safety. According to Cancer Research UK, many of us are not adequately protecting ourselves. Don't let your skin suffer! Here are our top sunscreen tips to keep you sun savvy this season:
1οΈβ£ SPF is your skin's best friend: SPF not only shields you from skin cancer but also slows down premature ageing. The sun breaks down collagen, resulting in wrinkles, dryness, and age spots. Protect your skin's elasticity and strength by using sunscreen with at least SPF 30, ideally SPF 50 on your face.
2οΈβ£ Dark skin needs protection too: Even if you have darker skin, sun exposure can lead to melasma and uneven pigmentation. Ensure you're safeguarding your skin from harmful UV rays by using sunscreen.
3οΈβ£ Opt for higher SPF levels: Always go for a sun cream with at least SPF 30, but ideally SPF 50. This will shield you from the photo-aging effects of UVB. Remember, the SPF number represents the level of protection compared to bare skin.
4οΈβ£ Apply the right amount: To ensure adequate protection, use half a teaspoon for the face, neck, and ears, and over half a teaspoon for each arm. For the back, chest, and each leg, apply a full teaspoon. Applying less can significantly reduce your protection.
Top Sunscreen Tips:
π§ Children's sunscreen is great for adults too, especially for sensitive skin and delicate areas.
β Look for sun creams with five stars of UVA protection for maximum defence against ageing and melanoma.
π§’ Don't rely solely on a hat; sunscreen is essential, as UV rays reflect off various surfaces.
Stay protected and enjoy the summer sun responsibly!
