We said what we said…

If your parent is more comfortable speaking Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Gujarati, or Hindi - they deserve a carer who speaks their language too.

Not just for practical reasons.

For comfort.

For dignity.

For connection.

Imagine trying to explain how you’re feeling in a language that isn’t yours.

Now imagine doing that when you’re unwell, tired, or confused.

That’s why we match carers based on:

Language

Culture

Personality

Family preferences

Because care isn’t one-size-fits-all.

High blood pressure affects 1 in 3 adults in the UK (NHS).

But for elderly people, it’s even more common, and often goes unnoticed.

This is what you should know:
✓ What’s normal?

Below 140/90 is ideal for most adults

Elderly parents may need more personalised targets

✓ Why it matters:

High BP increases risk of stroke, heart attack, and dementia

Often has no symptoms (“the silent killer”)

✓ When to check:

At least once a year

More often if they have diabetes or kidney disease

✓ What to watch for:

Severe headaches

Nosebleeds

Chest pain

Vision changes

Our carers can:

Monitor blood pressure at home

Notice warning signs

Ensure medication is taken correctly

Report changes to family and GPs

Because the small things matter.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably doing more than you realise.

Caring for an elderly parent while managing your own life isn’t easy.

Especially when you’re trying to understand medical conditions you’ve never dealt with before.

Type 2 diabetes. High blood pressure. Early signs of dementia.

Suddenly, you’re not just their child anymore… you’re their translator, their advocate, their care coordinator.

And if your parent doesn’t speak English as their first language? It gets even harder.

At Ask Care, we understand this. Our carers aren’t just trained, they’re matched to your family’s language, culture, and needs.

Because your mum or dad shouldn’t have to explain their symptoms in a language that isn’t theirs.

Need support? We’re here.

Caring for a parent rarely happens all at once. It starts with small things.

You help with an appointment. You check their shopping.
You answer a late-night phone call.

Over time, those small moments grow.

You cancel plans because something came up. You say no to opportunities at work. You stay alert even when you’re exhausted.
You take on the stress because you don’t want to worry anyone else.

You may be supporting elderly parents and feel this pressure, but rarely speak about it.

That mental load of caring for family can affect sleep, work, health, and relationships.

If you’re supporting an elderly parent and feeling stretched, then accessing the right carer support in the UK can protect your wellbeing as well as your loved one’s.

Ask Care supports families with elderly home care, respite care, and family support services across East London and Essex.

DM or comment below if this is something you’ve experienced while caring for elderly parents.

Choosing support for a parent or loved one is one of the most important decisions a family will make.

Families want to know their loved one is safe.

That carers will arrive on time.

That routines will be respected.

That someone will notice when something changes.

Good care is not just about helping with daily tasks.

It’s about understanding the person, their routine, their culture, their preferences, and what matters most to them.

At Ask Care, our services are built around person-centred care, meaning support is tailored to each individual rather than following a fixed routine.

Our team provides home care, dementia support, respite care, disability support, and day centre services, designed to help people remain comfortable and supported in their own environment.

We also help families navigate practical challenges, including care planning, funding guidance, and ongoing wellbeing monitoring, so families feel confident their loved one is receiving the right support.

We proudly support families across East London and Essex, including Redbridge, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Havering and surrounding areas.

If you’re starting to explore care options, speaking to the right team early can make all the difference.

The best care isn’t just about helping someone with daily tasks.

It’s about noticing the small changes that can affect health and wellbeing.

A parent eating less than usual.

Walking a little slower than before.

Sleeping poorly or waking often at night.

Feeling quieter or less confident than normal.

These changes can happen gradually, and families may not always see them straight away.

At Ask Care, our carers are trained to observe and report changes so support can be adjusted early. This is part of delivering person-centred care and maintaining high standards across our home care services in East London and Essex.

Care plans are reviewed regularly so that support continues to meet each person’s needs. Families are kept informed, helping everyone feel reassured that their loved one’s wellbeing is being monitored.

This approach helps protect independence while ensuring people receive the right level of elderly care support as their needs change.

Ask Care provides home care, dementia support, respite care, disability support, and day centre services for families across Redbridge, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Havering and surrounding areas.

It doesn’t always look like a problem at first.

Your parent might just start eating a little less.

These small changes are easy to miss.

But for older adults, reduced appetite can affect energy, strength, mood, and recovery from illness.

This week is Nutrition and Hydration Week, and it’s a good reminder to notice the little things.

Eating less can happen for many reasons.

Sometimes food doesn’t taste the same anymore.

Sometimes chewing becomes uncomfortable.

Sometimes medication affects appetite.

Sometimes they simply forget to eat.

When families are caring for elderly parents, these small patterns often show up before anything else.

If you’ve noticed any of these signs, you’re not overreacting. Paying attention to small changes is one of the most important parts of caring for elderly parents and supporting elderly health and wellbeing.

Save this post so you can check these signs again later.

World Sleep Day is a reminder that sleep changes as we age.

But poor sleep in older adults is often dismissed as “just getting older.”

You might notice your parent waking several times a night, walking around the house at 3am, feeling confused in the early morning, napping more during the day, or saying they feel tired even after being in bed for hours.

Sleep affects mood, balance, memory, and overall elderly wellbeing.

Interrupted sleep can increase fall risk.

It can affect blood pressure.

It can make confusion worse.

It can leave family carers feeling exhausted too.

Sometimes it’s medication timing.

Sometimes it’s discomfort.

Sometimes it’s anxiety.

Sometimes it’s simply routine changes.

Good elderly care includes noticing these patterns and adjusting support where needed.

At Ask Care, our home care services, dementia support, and person-centred care plans consider sleep, routine, and safety as part of overall wellbeing.

If sleep patterns have changed and you’re unsure what it means, you’re not overthinking. You’re paying attention.

11/03/2026

Today is National No Smoking Day.

According to the NHS, smoking increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, lung conditions, and slower healing. In older adults, those risks are often higher.

Smoking can affect elderly health differently.

It can cause more breathlessness when walking short distances.

More frequent chest infections.

Slower recovery after illness or surgery.

Reduced circulation, which affects mobility and wound healing.

Increased risk of serious complications if they already live with conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.

For families caring for elderly parents, these changes are not always obvious at first.

You may notice they get tired quicker.

That they avoid stairs.

That coughing lasts longer than it should.

That they seem weaker after minor illnesses.

The NHS highlights that quitting smoking at any age improves circulation, lung function, and overall health outcomes.

Even later in life, stopping smoking can reduce health risks and improve quality of life.

If you are supporting an elderly parent who smokes, gentle conversations and GP guidance can make a difference.

At Ask Care, we support families with elderly health monitoring, home care support, and practical wellbeing guidance across East London and Essex.
