Days like today are a reminder that movement doesn’t always need four walls and a treadmill.

Another thing to look out for is the ingredients list. When products have added protein or fibre, it often comes in the form of powders, isolates or extracts — and these usually sit alongside a long list of other ingredients designed to improve taste, texture and shelf life. The longer and more complicated the ingredient list, the more processed the product tends to be.

In most cases, you’re better off focusing on simple, whole foods and meals you prepare yourself. Real sources of protein, fibre and nutrients don’t need marketing claims — they’re naturally found in foods like meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, vegetables, fruit and whole grains.

When in doubt, the simplest foods — and the meals you cook at home — are usually the best choice.
