Aw look, my first doula baby, back in 2007. How young I looked then!

Many years & many families supported since.

I've learned a lot, something from each family, each birth, each person I've worked with.

Knowledge shared is power, the wisdom of each birth shared with others helps to make the world a better place.

Come join me for my Bitesize Birth sessions each month to share birth experiences & knowledge. To reflect on our actions and those of others in the birth space, so we can keep expanding our wisdom, to better support the people we care for, who honour us by choosing us to walk their birth journey with them.

This is me and my two favourite humans. My husband Simon and our lovely boy Seb.

A little about me:

❤️ Today is my Birthday

🧡 I qualified as an Osteopath in 2005 and have taught various techniques since this time, in various settings, including Osteopathy, massage and biomechanincs for birth

💛 My first doula baby is now nearly 17!!

💚 We live aboard our narrowboat Serenity (you can see her in the background)

💙 We travel where we are needed. We've been in and around London for a while now but are soon heading to Oxford

💜 I really am terrible at all ball sports, including crazy golf apparently (we found out today). I used to row competitively as a teenager but now I workout in a teeny tiny workout space aboard Serenity.

🤍 Spending time with friends is my absolute favourite thing to do.

💙 Wouldn't it be wonderful if this was the reality in perinatal care

💜 It's crazy really that this is not in fact the reality because I'm sure if it was, it would actually cost FAR less at the direct point of contact as well as in the future as ptsd would be significantly reduced, cesareans, inductions and the long term health implications for parents and babies would be reduced... Health care professionals would suffer less burnout and be happier in their work..

The sensible voice of well researched reason...

Posted • Are there good reasons to induce labour?

That's a question often posted when I talk or write about labour induction.

It's an understandable question. I have spent more than twenty years writing about how induction isn't always beneficial.

I've often pointed out that, sometimes, induction is offered or recommended for less-than-good reasons.

Convenience, fear or a lack of trust in the female body.

And many of those who work in birth-related areas see many unnecessary inductions.

They also see the negative consequences that can sometimes result.

So I understand why people ask.

But the truth is that there are some stunningly good reasons to offer to induce someone’s labour.

I've explained that in my blog post today, where I have also listed the reasons for induction that I would consider to be questionable.
