Sunday mood.

ā€œDo you have the patience to wait
till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving
till the right action arises by itself?ā€

Thoracic spine and rib pain
Ā
The thoracic spine and ribcage provide protection for the heart and lungs and are essential for breathing.
There are many causes of thoracic spine pain. These range from mild pain, such as restricted rib mobility and facet joint pain due to posture alteration or an altered breathing pattern, to more serious issues like rib fracture, Tietze syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome or intercostal neuralgia.Ā Moreover, pain in the thorax region can be referred from visceral organs.
Patients with thoracic spine and rib pain often experience restricted neck and thoracic spine movement. They may also experience increased pain when lying on the affected side with symptoms becoming aggravated when breathing.Ā
The good news is that the majority of cases can be resolved with physiotherapy.Ā With a correct diagnosis, hands-on treatment, postural advice, and an exercise programme tailored to your needs you can get back to your usual fitness level and pain-free movement.

Without a doubt autumn has arrived. Days are getting shorter, and sometimes we don’t see the sun! We become less motivated to go outside, even for a short walk. However, we should keep in mind that being outdoors is one of the key ways we can naturally boost our serotonin (happiness hormone) levels.
Ā
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) produced within the central nervous system and within the gut.
About 95% of serotonin is estimated to be found in the gut, and 5% is found in the brain.
The most well-known function of serotonin is to stabilise the mood. It also affects feelings of happiness, satisfaction, being focused and feeling calm. Moreover, serotonin regulates melatonin production (the sleep-wake cycle hormone).
Ā
Low levels of serotonin may contribute to depression and anxiety.

You can boost your serotonin levels by:
Ā
šŸ¤øšŸ¾ā€ā™€ļøtaking regular aerobic exercise
šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø meditating every day
šŸŒeating food containing tryptophan, which can be found in eggs, parmesan, salmon, nuts, bananas, millet
😓getting good quality sleep
ā˜€ļø/🌄exposing yourself to bright light by staying outdoors, even on a cloudy day

How do you boost your serotonin level?

Did you know that about 60% of your body is made up of water and 90% of your blood contains water?Ā
Water plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis. It flushes toxins from your organs, carries nutrients to your cells, regulates body temperature, helps deliver oxygen throughout the body, cushions your joints, and helps digest the food you eat.Ā
Ā
It acts as a shock absorber for the brain, spinal cord and, if pregnant, the fetus. Hormones and neurotransmitter production also require water.Ā Drinking water and staying hydrated may help with constipation and prevent recurring urinary and bladder infections.
Every day you lose water through breathing, sweating, and urinating. To replenish water loss in the body it is recommended to drink approximately 2-3 litres of fluids every day depending on s*x and age.Ā
Ā
Daily fluid intake is not only what you drink but also what you eat. For example, cabbage and lettuce consists of 90-99% water whereas the water content of bananas and avocados is 70-79%.Ā
When fluid intake is insufficient, you may experience symptoms of dehydration which means that your body loses more fluids than you take in. The most common symptoms of dehydration are feeling thirsty, dizzy, headache, dry mouth, lips and eyes, and urinating little and fewer than four times a day.
Drinking water is crucial and an easy way to help maintain your physiological balance.
Ā
Listen to your body and take some time to check in with yourself and evaluate how much water you drink and how this affects your overall health.

We can sometimes take our health for granted, until we get an injury or experience persistent symptoms which we can’t get rid of.
If there is no real injury to the tissue, the symptoms you are experiencing may have been building up for months or years.
They might be a combination of previous injuries, surgeries, traumas and stress. Our body is very clever and remembers everything that has happened to it and tries to cope with it in the best possible way by finding ways to compensate.
There are different types of treatment options available and there is no unique approach because everyone is different.
The good news is that there is always a solution for you.
You will be able to see and feel if the treatment plan works for you. I always say to my patients that I am here to show their body the direction of transformation and to amplify self-healing and auto-regulation processes.
You need to remember that only you are in charge of any long-term changes by changing your habits, posture and being patient with yourself. The road to recovery can sometimes be bumpy but it can also be very rewarding once you start feeling better.šŸ™ŒšŸ˜‰šŸ˜Š

Did you know that, the shoulder complex is composed of four joints and 19 muscles. It links the trunk to the upper limbs and plays an important biomechanical role in daily activities.
Pain in the shoulder region can be the result of ligament strain or inflammation leading to conditions such as tendonitis and bursitis. Altered alignment in the shoulder blades can also contribute to muscle imbalance and therefore affect quality of shoulder movements.

This is one of the most frequent questions I get asked and the answer is not straightforward. This really depends on how severe your symptoms are and how long you have been having them.
I usually recommend that my patients book appointments weekly until they can manage their symptoms on their own with the exercise programme and advice on posture I have provided.
You might need one to three sessions to address muscle tightness and facet joint pain, but recovery from specific conditions may take anything from three months to a year. Ā
Ā
If you would like further advice or would like to arrange a physiotherapy session, please DM me or send me an email.

Your first physiotherapy session is called an initial appointment and is divided into three parts:

1.Comprehensive discussion about your condition

This will include questions regarding current symptoms and their impact on your quality of life and activities.
I will ask you about past medical history including injuries, surgeries, coexisting conditions, types of medications you have been taking and your goals for the treatment.

2.Physical examination

For this part of the session it is advisable to wear sports clothes such as leggings, shorts, and a sports bra. However, you may be asked to remove your clothes down to your underwear as this is the best way to assess your posture. If you feel uncomfortable about this, just let me or the clinic know and we can work around this.
You will then be asked to perform certain movements to ascertain your general limitations and pain level.
I will then carry out specific tests to establish what is responsible for your symptoms, whether this be muscles, ligaments, nerves, faulty movement patterns or a combination of all of these.
After this, we will discuss my findings and outline a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

3.Start treatment.

At the first session you will get an idea of how the treatment will work. I will start hands-on treatment which will include a combination of manual therapy, muscle energy techniques, trigger points therapy and myofascial release techniques. You will also be given a few exercises and tips which will help you to manage your symptoms at home.

If you would like to book an appointment head to my website šŸ‘‰link in bio.
