As a general rule, if you have dark patches, opt for products with:
Azelic Acid - Targets uneven tone and redness
Niacinamide - Smooths and strengthens the skin’s barrier
Vitamin C antioxidants - morning protection to prevent new pigment - if you’re prone to breakouts then I would avoid Vitamin C
Retinoids - night-time renewal, if suitable for your skin
Barrier-focused hydration - always hydrate with a moisturiser you love (it doesn’t need to cost a fortune).
