Backbends are often misunderstood. While they may appear dramatic, their true value lies in what they cultivate internally.

These asanas help us identify areas of rigidity. By expanding the chest and encouraging spacious breath, backbends counteract the collapsed (slouching) patterns many of us develop under stress.

They also stimulate the nervous system and enhance focus—but only when approached with care.

Without proper support and alignment, it’s common to overuse the lower back and neck, bypassing the thoracic spine—the region that benefits most from backbends.

The breath serves as a reliable guide. When it becomes restricted, it often indicates that the body is being pushed beyond its current capacity.

For this reason, we approach backbends progressively—using props, correct alignment and thoughtful modifications to create access without force.

If you want to learn this practice with the right techniques, join us for my upcoming workshop.

We all come to yoga for different reasons—most of us to achieve something physical.

But as the practice deepens, we slowly begin to see that yoga is much more than just the physical.

It is an ancient wisdom, passed down through generations, still guiding us even today. It teaches us how to find balance—not only in the body, but in the mind and within ourselves.

I too started my journey seeking physical well-being. But over time, I understood that yoga was quietly working on me in many other ways—bringing clarity, steadiness and a deeper connection within.

So whether you are just starting or have been walking this path for some time, take a moment to truly value this practice.

“I’m not flexible.”
“My back doesn’t bend like that.”
“I’ll never be able to do this.”

These words feel true because you’ve repeated them often enough.
But repetition doesn’t make them reality—it only makes them familiar.

The body listens. It adapts. It learns.

Come learn safe ways to practice backbends.

Before yoga became my profession, it was simply time spent with my father.

No fancy studios — just early morning , afternoons and evening practicing at home along his guidance. His hands adjusting my asana, his voice reminding me stay present, to not rush into a pose just to “achieve” it.

Everything he shared had depth — how the spine should feel light, how the breath should lead the body, how patience is also a practice.

I watched him stay consistent through the years — through busy days, through challenges, waking up early to practice yoga — always returning to his practice with the same sincerity. That stayed with me.

Today, as I teach others, I often catch myself repeating his words, his cues, his way of explaining things simply. His teachings didn’t just shape my practice — they shaped who I am as a teacher.

My first yoga teacher, my father. 🙏

Suddenly… everything around you becomes a yoga prop.

Because everything around you is a teacher.

That wall? It teaches you alignment.
The floor? It teaches you grounding.
A chair, a counter, a block—they’re not there to “make it easier”… they’re there to make you understand.

Props are used to refine precision, improve alignment and make poses accessible.

Take Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose) for example:
Using a wall or support like this allows you to press your top leg into something tangible, helping you actively open the top hip.

Something most people miss when they’re just trying to balance in the middle of the room.

Yoga isn’t about how deep you go into a pose…
It’s about how intelligently you explore it.

Variations aren’t “easier options”—
they’re different doorways into the same posture.

Because sometimes the thing supporting you…
is the thing teaching you the most.
