Sjögren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic dryness in your eyes, mouth and other parts of your body.

Anyone can develop this disease, but certain groups of people are more likely to have it:

✅Women - More than 90% of people with Sjögren’s syndrome are women. Men can develop it, but it’s much less common.
✅People with other autoimmune diseases - Around half of people with Sjögren’s syndrome have at least one other autoimmune condition.
✅People between the ages of 45 and 55 - Children, younger adults and adults older than 55 can have Sjögren’s syndrome, but it usually develops in adults in that age range.
✅People who have a biological relative with Sjögren’s syndrome - Around 10% of people with Sjögren’s syndrome have a direct relative (a biological parent or sibling) with it, too.

The most common measures used to help diagnose Sjögren's syndrome include blood tests, glands ultrasound scans or eye test.

🌞Summer is in full swing! On hot days, we often carelessly enjoy sunshine. However, this is a demanding time for our skin.

🌞Our aesthetic medicine specialist, dr Małgorzata Beata Wiśniewska, suggests rejuvenating and moisturizing skin treatments, both before and after your holidays.

🌞The doctor also recommends post-sun depigmentation peels.
It is also important to hydrate the skin from the inside.

🌞During the holidays, it is safe to use biostimulators. Thanks to their early use, we can maintain a naturally youthful appearance and healthy skin without fillers.

🌞To schedule an individual consultation with treatment recommendation, please contact the reception in Croydon.

Piriformis Syndrome vs. Sciatica: Know the Difference❗

Experiencing pain in your lower back, buttocks, or legs?

While Piriformis Syndrome and Sciatica may seem similar, they are actually quite different!

✅Piriformis Syndrome is caused by tightness or spasms in the piriformis muscle (located in the buttocks), which can irritate the sciatic nerve, causing pain and discomfort.

✅Sciatica, on the other hand, is caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve (often due to a herniated disc or spinal issue), leading to radiating pain down the leg, usually starting in the lower back.

Struggling to figure out what's causing your discomfort?
Don’t wait for the pain to get worse. Book an appointment with our experienced orthopaedist, Dr. Jerzy Kucharski, who can accurately diagnose your condition and recommend the best treatment for your relief.

Is Your Sinus Health at Risk from Air Conditioning?

If you've ever felt discomfort in your face or head during a long car ride or flight, you might be experiencing symptoms of sinus inflammation, commonly known as sinusitis. This condition can be triggered by the dry, cold air from air conditioning systems in cars, airplanes, or even indoor environments. Prolonged exposure to such conditions can irritate your sinuses and lead to congestion, headaches, facial pain, or even infections.

Why does air conditioning cause this?

Air conditioning can dry out the air in your environment, causing the mucous membranes inside your sinuses to become dry and irritated. This can lead to inflammation and blockage of the sinus cavities. If your sinuses are already vulnerable due to allergies, colds, or other underlying issues, the air conditioner can make things worse.

Common symptoms of sinusitis include:

✅Facial pain or pressure
✅Blocked or stuffy nose
✅Thick nasal discharge
✅Headache or tooth pain
✅Coughing or post-nasal drip

If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to seek help from an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist. They can provide the proper diagnosis and treatment to alleviate your discomfort and prevent complications.

At our clinic, our ENT specialists, Dr Yavor Chobanov and Dr Mansoor Sharifi are trained to help you manage sinus health and prevent future flare-ups. Don't let sinus problems disrupt your life – schedule an appointment with us today and breathe easier!

01/07/2025

Summer is a time of freedom and fun for the youngest. Unfortunately, this is when children are more susceptible to illness and accidents than at other times of the year.

The most common include:

🌞Sunburn

Symptoms of sunburn are not just red and sore skin. You may also experience weakness, fever, and even vomiting. In such cases, you should contact your doctor. If only the skin has been affected, apply cold compresses and give your child drinks.

🥛Dehydration

Make sure that children wear headgear and drink plenty. Symptoms of dehydration include elevated temperature, apathy, drowsiness, irritability, and lack of desire to drink. If such symptoms occur, the child should be taken to the hospital emergency department.

✅Ticks

If you are going for a walk with your child in areas where ticks may be present, make them wear long trousers and long-sleeved clothing. If you notice a tick on your child after a walk, you can remove it yourself, using tweezers or a special tool available at chemist’s. If you are unable to do this, you should see a doctor.

🦟Insect bites

Make sure that insects do not get into your children's drinks - bites around the larynx are deadly dangerous. Other bite areas should be treated with a product available at chemist’s, and the child can also be given calcium. You can deal with the usual effects of a bite at home. If you suspect you are having an allergic reaction, go to the hospital immediately.

🚑Injuries

Watch children and their games. Make sure they wear helmets and protectors when rollerblading or cycling. All head, stomach or limb injuries should of course be consulted with doctors.

🤢Food poisoning

Protect children from poorly stored frozen foods, such as ice cream, from large quantities of sweets or fast food. In general, any food poisoning should be consulted with a doctor.

🧬🦠Viral and bacterial infections

They happen at any time of the year. These are not only runny noses, coughs and sore throats, but also so-called stomach flu. If they occur, contact a doctor.

Diabetes is the first non-communicable disease recognized by the UN as an epidemic of the 21st century.

On June 27, we celebrate the day of the discovery of insulin – a drug that has turned diabetes from an incurable disease into a chronic condition.

Diabetes is a condition that happens when your blood sugar (glucose) is too high. It develops when your pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin or any at all, or when your body isn’t responding to the effects of insulin properly.

There are several types of diabetes. The most common forms include:

✅Type 1 diabetes: This type is an autoimmune disease in which your immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in your pancreas for unknown reasons. Up to 10% of people who have diabetes have Type 1. It’s usually diagnosed in children and young adults, but it can develop at any age.
✅Prediabetes: This type is the stage before Type 2 diabetes. Your blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be officially diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
✅Type 2 diabetes: With this type, your body doesn’t make enough insulin and/or your body’s cells don’t respond normally to the insulin (insulin resistance). This is the most common type of diabetes. It mainly affects adults, but children can have it as well.
✅Gestational diabetes: This type develops in some people during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes usually goes away after pregnancy. However, if you have gestational diabetes, you’re at a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life.

The symptoms of diabetes include increased thirst, frequent urination, and weight loss, concentration problems, blurred vision, excessive drowsiness, skin changes, and breath with a smell of acetone.

If left untreated, diabetes can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, nerve damage, and vision loss.

24/06/2025

Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones, making them thin and brittle, increasing the risk of fractures, especially in the hip, wrist and spine.
It occurs when the body loses too much bone, produces too little bone or both.

Common causes include aging, hormonal changes and nutritional deficiencies, particularly calcium and vitamin D.

Symptoms may not be noticeable until a fracture occurs, but early signs can include back pain and loss of height.

Prevention and treatment options include lifestyle changes, such as a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, avoiding alcohol and ni****ne, regular weight-bearing exercise and medication, if necessary.
