No, but really…how are you?

It’s the middle of the week. It’s also . So…how are you doing? When I ask this, I don’t mean at this very moment tell me the emotion you’re feeling. Instead, I’m wondering how things have been. How have you been the last few days…how has work been going…how is your relationship doing.

Sometimes if we’re overwhelmed in a moment it can feel like it’s a representative of our whole life. ‘Omg everything is going wrong, nothing is going my way, I’m failing’, basically. And how we FEEL in those moments are valid…but that doesn’t make them true.

Maintaining perspective is one of the hardest types of awareness that I personally struggle with, but this can go both ways. If you’re like me it’s sometimes hard to remember all of the amazing things happening in your life…but for others it can be hard to recognise how not okay you are and actually things aren’t all amazing at the moment.

So here’s a prompt to do a little self check-in, and if you need help, call up one of your closest friends to go and have a coffee or dinner this week so that you can create that safe space to talk about it. Sometimes all it takes is knowing someone cares.

‘I feel lonely even in a room full of people…’

1 in 4 adults feel lonely some or all of the time, according to the recent ‘Loneliness Research’ report launched this week.

The research explores what it’s like to be lonely: its causes, consequences and the groups of people who are more likely to experience severe and enduring loneliness. Mental Health Foundation has been posting some of its key facts this week, diving into ages, ethnicities and other category variations.

They’ve also been sharing some insight on how to deal with loneliness, head to their page to check it out.

Reasons why us girls at Milk & Sand go to therapy, and why you should too.

It’s not the easiest finding someone who will sit and listen to you open up about what’s really going on. Not just from an emotional standpoint but from a time perspective - we’re always doing something or have somewhere to be so it means we get short snippets of time to be vulnerable which let’s face it…isn’t good enough to make us actually want to do it.

Offering a listening ear needs to be intentional. It deserves us to be 1) aware of whether or not we’re in the right headspace to offer a compassionate shoulder, and 2) ready to listen and carve out time for the conversation, whatever that looks like.

For a lot of us, those two things can’t be met most of the time, especially when we might need it most. This is why having a therapist or counsellor can be so important…because it means the time is there and the floor is yours, and sometimes that’s all you need. 💕

In light of , most companies offer help towards seeking a counsellor or will provide you with resources on how to find a therapist. If this is something you’d like to look into, this is the week to do it 🙏🏽

You can’t pour from an empty cup…

Today marks the beginning of so it’s only right to kick it off with this little reminder. You are not a robot, or a superhero, or a 24/7 machine…you’re human. You have feelings that are valid, emotions that are welcomed, and you can’t do it all, all of the time.

Being aware is always something we aim to do, but for this week in particular let’s try to give ourselves some more tlc and compassion.

Read that again.

“I don’t want to feel better…I want to get better at feeling.”

Heard this from a recent talk by to kick off mental health awareness week and can’t stop replaying it. Especially when it comes to leaning on others, we think saying things like “it’ll get better” and “you’ll be fine” are helpful, but actually they’re phrases that end up closing down the conversation and disables us to continue feeling.

There’s power in the silence, listening and staying present. Sometimes we don’t want to problem solve, we just want to release that pressure from our chests.

Make it a May to remember 🌺

The last month of spring is here, summer is approaching - what’s something you want to achieve this month? Write it down, stick it up on a wall, and make a step-by-step plan on how you need to get it.

Let’s do some goal-setting 👏🏽

Motivation gets you going but discipline keeps you growing.

once said, "goals on the road to achievement cannot be achieved without discipline and consistency."

This is because discipline and consistency go hand in hand, it doesn't matter how talented you are or how many opportunities you receive ...if you want to grow in any area of your life, you have to be both disciplined and consistent.

Here are 8 ways to start your journey of self-discipline:

1. Set S.M.A.R.T goals
2. Create healthy habits
3. Do what comes naturally
4. Write down your progress
5. Hold yourself accountable
6. Learn how to schedule your work
7. Complete the hardest assignment first
8. Remind yourself of what's actually true

We know it can be hard sometimes but remember, we're on this journey too. 🤎🌹

So Elon Musk just bought Twitter for $44billion…and I don’t know how to feel.

What’s to come of it…what his intentions are…the fact one person can have so much power - it’s quite a scary thing to think about.

But, what it has highlighted to me is just how important it is, now more than ever, to be careful what you allow yourself to be seeing on social media. These platforms can be beautiful and inspiring, but they can also be dangerously toxic and more damaging to our psychy than we are aware of.

Appreciate and enjoy whatever offline time you have this week, and be intentional about who you choose to follow. What’s flooding your timeline will flood your mind.

Sometimes, we could all use a reminder that it's okay to fail ...so on those days that you need it, say this mantra and repeat it as many times as you need to:

"It's okay that I FAILED, as long as I LEARN from this failure and GROW in the process."

As humans, we're not always going to get it right and that's okay, as long as we're learning and growing, things will fall into their rightful place.

Be patient with yourself today and every day, YOU GOT THIS! 🤎🌹
