Anyone interested in doing some sports science testing?? South bank university offering free assessments as part of research.

Protocol Overview

3 experimental trials

Then you will complete 3 experimental trials (separated by 7 days) in which you will complete two cognitive tasks (go-no-go test on PEBL online software and a 30min self-paced cycling time-trial on a TURBO WATT BIKE PRO KICKR in hot and dry conditions. A BODYCAP pill will be used to assess core temperature, skin temperature will be checked via infrared handheld monitor meaning nothing is directly placed on the skin, and heart rate also via polar HR monitor worn around the upper abdomen.

This research will so investigate how imagery affects performance within thermally straining conditions, gaining an insight into how such imagery techniques will affect the perceptual fatigue, impulsivity and accuracy of decision-making.

What is the purpose of the study?
The Aims of this study are to investigate:
• The effect of imagery on cognitive performance in a physical environmental stressor
• The effect of imagery on physical performance (cycling TT) in a physical environmental stressor
• The effect of imagery on the body physical responses in a physical environmental stressor
• The effect of imagery on the perceived exertion in a physical environmental stressor

This study will take place throughout 4 weeks of repeated measure for the design of the study.

Who has been invited to participate?
To be selected for the participation of this study since you should fit the criteria of being a healthy person ranging between the age of 18-39. This permits us as researchers to have you as part of a sample population.
Do I have to take part?
Participation in the research is completely voluntary:

What will happen to me if I take part?
• You will be required to visit the London South Bank University Environmental laboratory 5 times.
• The first visit is to familiarize you with the research project and assess your current fitness status.
• In the following 3 visits you will complete a 30min cycling time-trial in hot and dry conditions.
• In the final visit you will participate in a focus group to talk about your thoughts towards the project intervention.

Will the data collected in this study be kept confidential?
All information collected about the individual will be kept strictly confidential (subject to legal limitations) and describe how confidentiality, privacy and anonymity will be ensured in the collection, storage and publication of research material. Data collected should optimally be anonymous (where the student-researcher does not know which data belongs to which participant). Moreover, a code will be accompanied by data collected and links with separate documents codes with identities; personal data will be kept stored for 5 years (LSBU intra-net) and anonymised experimental data from measurements will be stored permanently.
