On this blessed day, Rastafari worldwide unite in love and reverence for the Coronation Day of Emperor Haile Selassie I. Over 90 years ago, a young Ras Tafari Makonnen ascended to the throne, crowned as the Emperor of Ethiopia and revered as Jah’s chosen messenger on Earth. His Coronation is a sacred moment for Rastafari, a time to remember his legacy of justice, unity, and peace, and to renew our commitment to living by his example.
When Haile Selassie I became Emperor, he stood not only as the leader of Ethiopia but as a powerful symbol of African sovereignty, resilience, and liberation. He brought hope to people across the globe, especially those of African descent who were struggling under the weight of oppression, colonialism, and division. As Rastafari, we honor this day not simply as history but as a living reminder of the principles His Majesty upheld. His teachings live within each of us, guiding us in the journey of love, righteousness, and resistance against Babylon.
Haile Selassie I’s Call for Peace and Unity
In the face of aggression and conflict, Haile Selassie I was a fearless voice for peace and justice. One of his most powerful moments on the world stage came in 1936, when he stood before the League of Nations to address the invasion of his homeland. “It is us today; it will be you tomorrow,” he warned, reminding the world that unchecked aggression and injustice would affect everyone, not just Ethiopia. His words were not just a plea for help; they were a prophetic call to every nation to recognize their shared duty to uphold justice and resist oppression.
He taught that peace is more than the absence of war—it is a foundation for building a truly righteous world. As he said, “Peace is the foundation of everything constructive in human life.” Without peace, we cannot thrive; without justice, we cannot have peace. For Haile Selassie I, these were not separate ideals but interconnected forces. His message was clear: to achieve true peace, we must break down the systems of exploitation and uplift each other as equals, regardless of color, creed, or nationality.
A Timeless Message for Today’s World
