Windlass test
The Windlass Test is a clinical assessment for plantar fasciitis, checking the plantar fascia's ability to support the foot's arch by passively extending the big toe, which winds the fascia like a windlass (cable). A positive test involves pain at the arch's base (first metatarsal head) or limited toe movement (suggesting hallux rigidus), revealing tissue tightness or dysfunction that impacts gait, helping guide treatment for foot pain.
