Celebrating two of our amazing Trust OTs during Royal College of Occupational Therapists

Happy ! This week we celebrate our incredible occupational therapists (OTs) and the invaluable work they do.

OTs play a crucial role in supporting individuals facing mental health challenges, helping them to engage in meaningful activities that enhance their wellbeing and quality of life.

We spoke with Melissa and David, who shared insights about their roles and their favourite memories from their time at SWLSTG.

Melissa said: "I love being able to make a difference in someone’s life, even in small ways. Many of the people we work with have been through profound challenges, and watching them heal and move forward is both inspiring and incredibly rewarding for me."

David added: "I find older individuals and their families endlessly fascinating, and it's a true privilege to be able to provide support and practical assistance to those who need it most."

We're happy to announce that one of our Lead OTs has been selected to present at the RCOT Mental Health conference in March. This will be around our review and implementation of digital solutions to improve work flow, client care and data collection.

Due to the postholder retiring, we have a vacancy in the Richmond Older People’s Team. This will be an OT specific (no care coordination!) role split across the Memory Assessment Service and CMHT, allowing access to a broad range of client conditions and needs.

This client group really is such a pleasure to work with. The complex and fascinating challenges that the ageing process brings alongside working with people with extensive life histories and endlessly varied family and domestic circumstances is wonderfully intriguing.

We have an amazing bunch of existing Older People OTs, making it a dynamic group to be a part of.

We may be able to consider this as a Preceptorship Plus option so previous Older people experience is not essential

Great to have another OT nominated for an Exceptional People Award. Very much deserved- well done Lydia!

Congratulations to Lydia, a team manager in our community services, who was nominated for our Exceptional People Award for being an excellent leader 🏆

Lydia's colleagues said: “Lydia embodies the Trust's values and her exceptional ability to foster an environment of trust has enabled her team to flourish.

“Lydia is a guiding light, an exemplar of what true leadership entails. Her impact has been immeasurable."

Speaking about what the award means to her, Lydia said: “I feel touched to have been chosen as the winner of this award because I work hard and like to think I show commitment and skill in my role. It is always nice to know that it comes across that way!

“My favourite thing about my role is that, even though I am in a management position, I still get to be very involved in client facing work and retain my professional identity as an Occupational Therapist (OT). However, my favourite thing about SWLSTG as a whole is the OT structure and the support available for professional development which I have benefited from since 2016."

Well done Lydia 👏

On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember the people whose lives were cut short by transphobia and the friends and families they left behind. 🏳️‍⚧️

We remember them and celebrate their resilience.

We stand with the trans community, today and every day. Transphobic violence, in all its forms, must end.
