What a whopping change in heat this last week? Is it pushing your pitta over the edge? ๐Ÿ”ฅ are you getting heart burn or lose motions?

If, so switch up that acidic heating morning coffee for a cooling, green tea ๐Ÿต

Green tea is bitter, astringent and alkaline (and so pitta reducing by its opposite qualities) making it the ideal gut healing beverage on a Monday morning, particularly if you have had one too many summer ciders ๐Ÿคญ

๐Ÿฅ•Now Ayurveda is not strictly vegetarian, being heavy and nourishing meat is useful for maintaining Vata/brain/nerves and supportive in Autumn and Winter when (eating seasonally) fresh produce is limited. In the cold months we need heavier/fattier nutrition to stay warm...that said PASSIONATELY advocate small amounts of high quality, fresh fresh animal produce ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

Cheap meat is packed with a HORRIFYING amount of antibiotics, growth hormones and chemicals that interrupt the body's endocrine system and increase the likelihood of gut disease, toxicity and cancer ๐Ÿ˜ซ
...and don't even get us started on the "care" of the animals ๐Ÿฎ....

LUCKILY it's never ever been easier to eat non-animal bases produce ๐Ÿ’œ Soooo...swap that steak for seitan, make the move to mushrooms, learn to love your lentils and get let those cheeky chick peas make your day cheerful!

Your body, the planet and the animals will thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Oxford University research also finds pescatarians have 10% reduced risk compared with those who eat meat regularly

You may be feeling ungrounded, fragile, shaky, nervous or anxious due to the excessive winds ๐Ÿ’จ These are symptoms of excess vata so make sure to nourish and protect vata/nerves this week ๐Ÿค—

My 5 hot tips for staying grounded and calm

๐Ÿ”ฅ Eat warm slightly sweeter (think root veg), slightly sour and lightly spiced foods with cardamom, cinnamom, ginger and add a little ghee (unless your pitta is too high!)

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธDon't overdo it, keep busy but make time to stay centred, focus on your breathing and think of the gifts you are grateful for

๐Ÿ›Take a warm bath, ideally with a herbal bath oil to prevent muscle stiffness

๐Ÿต Stay warm and drink herbal tea, ideally with warming spices (again, unless your pitta is high)

๐ŸงฃIf you do go outside, wrap up warm and protect yourself from the elements, particularly your EARS! Excess wind in the ears can cause headaches, tinnitus and increase vata/nerve stimulation in the head.

๐ŸŒŸBONUS tip: If you suffer from constipation (not going daily), try magnesium salts, triphala or a small dose of Castor oil to clear the gut!

โœ… Yesterday I sadly tested positive for Covid so this will be much of my diet for the next few days ๐Ÿ˜Œ

๐Ÿ”ฅDuring an infection the agni is weak and eating heavy foods (meat, dairy, processed foods) will slow down healing and actually create more toxins.

To enable swift recovery it is important to eat light, soft and easily digestible foods such as rice porridge or peya (rice gruel) - at least for the first few days ๐Ÿฒ- only if you have appetite though!

๐Ÿฅ•Once your appetite increases this can be followed by vegetable soups or meat broths particularly for vata dominant infections characterised by more pain and fatigue.

๐ŸšRice porridge is so easy ๐Ÿ‘Simple soak, rinse and boil the rice. Lightly fry cumin seeds and mustard seeds, fresh garlic and ginger in ghee, add coriander, turmeric and methi powder. Stir into the rice with salt and some chopped fresh coriander.

Shouldn't be long before I am back on my feet ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

โ˜€๏ธWe all hear about the importance of getting enough sun to allow our bodies to convert cholesterol to from UVB rays....

๐ŸŒค๐ŸŒปBut, did you that basking in the MORNING sun/sunrise is actually incredibly important because itโ€™s saturated in infrared and blue light which...

โœ… stimulates collagen production

โœ… increases bone healing

โœ…helps to heals wounds.

โœ… be anti-ageing

โœ… reduce wrinkles and scars.

โœ…work with cellular water to create energy!

Yepp, hat's right, without the sun, we can't fully recharge! ๐Ÿ˜ฑโ˜€๏ธ

This why red light therapy is becoming for and more popular, but why pay when it's free!

๐ŸŒผโ˜€๏ธTry aiming to rise a little early and spend at least three minutes exposed to morning sun to get all the above health benefits and ultimately increase your longevity!

Also, if you get our I nature, there are even more benefits and dang, you may even catch a view like ours this morning ๐ŸŒ„ ๐Ÿ˜

12/01/2022

๐Ÿ˜ดInsomniacs! Lots of people seem to be struggling with sleep this month, here's some tried and tested ways of enabling good sleep, in case it helps ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿ“บSwitch off screens at 9pm and read instead, the blue light from TV and phones tells your brain/pineal gland its the middle of the day!

๐ŸตPukka night time tablets and tea help increases melatonin to aid natural tiredness and sleep.

๐Ÿช”DoTERRA lavender/Serenity oil on wrists before sleep helps a LOT too. I did that last night and the night before and for the first time in maybe 6 months I slept the whole night through completely undisturbed!

๐Ÿ“บBut if you DO ANYTHING its the screen switch off.

๐Ÿฅ•Getting your winter vitamins is crucial too, vitamin D3 (like 2,000 iu), magnesium, vitamins C and your B vitamins ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ Its recommended to supplement at this time of year as well as get a varied diet.

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธFinally daily meditation with the Headspace or calm app (you can use the free courses) is a great way to recognise emotions that might be keeping you up and to separate yourself from them ๐Ÿฅฐ

How I started living the AyurLife...

"I believe, no matter who you are, true well-being is not only possible but your birth-right.

Modern living can be stressful, making health and happiness feel like a distant dream. However, I am here to tell you that's not true - all you need is the road map! Time and time again, I have seen the tools of Ayurveda applied (even as small steps every day) resulting in profound, positive change in mind, body and soul. โ€‹

I am passionate about empowering others with the knowledge and tools of personalised self-care, nutrition and mindfulness to help you truly discover what it means to be happy, healthy and in control!"

โ€‹โ€‹In 2010 I moved to London to pursue an idea, which was to discover the truth about health. I it took me a 7 years of my life, a Bsc and Masters in Ayurvedic Medicine and 3 months in India but I found it!
