We need a new story about where life begins.
Not one rooted in competition but in collaboration.

From the very first moment, the female body is wise.
And it always has been. 💛

The newborn blood spot (heel-prick) test checks for a small number of rare conditions, chosen because early diagnosis can make a real difference.
SMA is very rare and most babies are born healthy.
Some countries already include SMA in their newborn blood spot screening, while the UK currently does not, has announced ‘Jesy Nelson and parents like her are amazing... I will be picking up the issues Jesy has raised around screening! Screening has also been piloted so I think it’s likely this will soon change.
If you’re pregnant or caring for a newborn, talk things through with your midwife and trust your gut.
If something doesn’t feel right, or you need more reassurance or information, it’s always okay to ask questions and take the time you need.
Information, support, and instinct are key for shedding light

Pregnancy is one of the most hormonally intense experiences a human body can go through.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotional, anxious, tearful, disconnected or unlike yourself you are not alone, and you are not failing.

This is matrescence.
A transformation of body, brain and identity.

Save this. Share it with someone who needs the reminder 🤍

So many claim to be able to teach you how to give birth, but the real expert is you mama. You know your body, your baby and your wishes better than anyone else. As birth unfolds it will take twists and turns, every birth is unique. There are many variations of normal during birth.

Research shows that maternal intuition plays a vital role in decision-making during pregnancy and birth, your body is constantly processing information, even before your conscious mind catches up. I’ve been it many, many times and if a mum tells me something, I listen to her.

You are the expert in your body and your baby.
Your instincts aren’t emotional guesses - they’re built on biology, lived experience and an exquisitely intelligent nervous system. And no external “expert” comes above that!

Trust yourself. You already know more than you think. 🤍

Big baby” does not = a complication.
And shoulder dystocia is not something you can predict well, measure or fear your way out of.

Late-pregnancy scans estimate weight - they don’t diagnose your ability to give birth. And there’s a high margin of error.

Most shoulder dystocia cases occur with babies of average size. That is supported by evidence and has been my experience as a midwife too.
Most bigger babies are born without complication.
And when shoulder dystocia does happen, it is a trained, manageable obstetric emergency - not a maternal failure.

AD - Pregnancy naturally increases your iron needs, especially later on. While a balanced diet is always the starting point, many women still find it hard to get enough iron from food alone.

I also know many women feel unsure about iron because of the usual side effects, which is why Active Iron Pregnancy is designed to be gentle on the stomach.

🧠Your brain changes after birth and that’s not a flaw. It’s a design feature.
🥼Modern neuroscience shows that becoming a mother triggers one of the most significant periods of brain plasticity in adult life.
💕These changes support bonding, responsiveness, and learning a completely new role, all while navigating profound physical and emotional shifts. Go easy on yourself x

Family ❤️ I rarely post about my family, siblings and parents. I’ve got a brother and a sister. I’m the eldest and we did everything together. We travelled the world, lived together, shared life’s biggest ups and downs and always had each-others backs. We were those siblings…If you had a problem with one of us, you had a problem with all 3 of us 😂

I’m very close to my parents and always have been, I admire them for how they raised us - the way they taught us to love each other. Means more now I’m a mum myself…watching my kids fight like so how did they do it???

Now, my family live in Cornwall and I moved back to Essex to be with Andy. It’s been really tough at times, being apart. There have been days my heart physically aches because I just want to be with them or share the kids development. But we’re 300 miles away. Thank goodness for my mother and father in law. They’re always there for us and I don’t know what I’d do without them 🥹❤️

This post isn’t leading to anything, just more of an appreciation post for the family that I’m so lucky to have 🥹

Miss you little twits, bring on Christmas x
