Guilt is really hard and often takes the enjoyment out of eating. It can be overcome, though, by repeating that meal/food enough times that it becomes so normal that you don't think about it anymore. Think of a food you don't eat because it makes you feel guilty and now look at how you can have it on a weekly basis and then add the next food and the next until over time, your repertoire of foods grows and you slowly build food freedom.

At The Bluebird Centre, we provide specialist, compassionate support for eating disorders that is practical, evidence-based, and tailored to the individual.

We help clients to:
💥 Rebuild a consistent, nourishing relationship with food
💥 Reduce food rules, guilt, and anxiety around eating
💥 Restore physical health, energy, and trust in your body
💥 Feel supported in a way that is consistent, individualised and non-judgemental

Our approach recognises that recovery is not about willpower or quick fixes — it’s about steady, supported change, guided by clinicians who understand both the medical and emotional complexity of eating disorders.

Clients often tell us they feel heard, supported, and guided, rather than rushed or overwhelmed. If you’re struggling with food or eating feels exhausting, support is available. Book a discovery call to explore how we can help.

After Christmas, it’s normal to crave a bit more structure.
That doesn’t mean dieting or “resetting” your body.
Recovery happens through small, manageable changes, layered in gradually over time — not quick fixes.

We put so much pressure on Christmas but it really is just 1 day out of 365 days. Where possible:

📆 Make a plan for the day ahead of time so that you can avoid any restrictions
💤 Give yourself time away from socialising to recharge batteries
👣 Include a short stroll for some fresh air
🆘 Make sure you have someone who can help you if you find everything overwhelming

Christmas can be a really tricky time when recovering from an Eating Disorder. We have limited availability over Christmas and more 1:1 availability in January. Why don't you book a discovery call or download our Recovery Bingo to help you get started?

An eating disorder can often start by what we think is making the right choices: eating "healthier". So it is hard to then unlearn the changes that have been made and allow yourself to eat the foods you removed with originally good intentions. No foods should be feared, so the lead up to Christmas is a great opportunity to make small positive changes towards your recovery:

💥 play Christmas Recovery Bingo
💥 buy a chocolate advent calendar
💥 have a roast every Sunday to build up confidence for Christmas day

Our most recent blog on our website lists more ways to help implement helpful strategies in the lead-up to Christmas.

Carbs from rice:
💥 Replenishes muscle and liver glycogen
💥 Supports hormone regulation (including menstrual recovery)
💥 Helps reduce fatigue, dizziness, coldness and food obsession
💥 Stabilises hunger cues

Cauliflower rice takes up a lot of space for very little energy. You may feel physically “full,” but:
💥 Your body hasn’t actually received enough fuel.
💥 It reinforces the eating disorder’s preference for low-calorie, high-volume foods.
💥 It delays metabolic recovery and can worsen bloating.
