Nutrition by Isabella I want to share my passion for experimenting with natural foods to create yummy meals. Following a grain and sugar free diet has benefited my overall health.

Having suffered from terrible migraines for most of my 27 years, I decided it was time to take my health into my own hands and look at healing myself through food. Enrolling at CNM I have started my journey to become a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist. I hope to one day make the world a healthier and happier place, one client at a time! Food disclaimer:

If you're looking for a quick and easy, nutritious breakfast why not try a homemade granola?
πŸ₯„
Coconut flakes, oats, pumpkin seeds, almonds, pecan nuts, sunflower seeds and chia seeds mixed with coconut oil and almond nut butter, sweetened with some organic raw honey and baked for 20-30 minutes.

It's so easy to make a big batch and store in an air tight container for the week! Really, there's no excuse and the whole family will love it 😍.

A common thing I keep hearing from people is that they don't have time for breakfast and I cannot stress enough how important being prepared is. My top tips to a quick, healthy, nutrient packed breakfast are:
🍊
Create a food plan!
Get creative and know what you're going to eat for the week. Do a big shop so you have all of your ingredients and you don't have to keep thinking on your feet and buying last minute bits and bobs.
🍌
Keep frozen fruit in the freezer.
This means you don't have to worry about fresh produce going off and it still has a great nutritional content.
🍏
Prep the basics the night before:
Leave your base of your smoothie (spinach, kale, mint, banana) in the nutribullet container the night before, so all you have to do is add frozen fruit and liquid in the morning.
πŸ’
Dont over complicate things...
Honestly, a delicious smoothie takes seconds to whiz up, so there really is no excuse. Remember to always make sure you have more veg than fruit as the sugar content can quickly add up when you're drinking your fruit!
☺️
Let me know what your favourite combos are and use the

😍
This seriously nutrient dense breakfast is definitely one to get you back on track after a bit of a blow out.

Spinach is not only rich in, iron, vitamin c, potassium, folate and other b vitamins, it's also a brilliant source of magnesium which I have needed this week!
πŸ’πŸ½β€β™€οΈ
In the luteal stage of a woman's cycle, magnesium levels plummet. This mixed with stress, which also depletes Mg levels, means I've been getting headaches, not been sleeping well, had the occasional eye twitch and cramp... all of which can be common signs of low levels of magnesium.
πŸŽ‰
To top it all off, I've made sure that I'm using organic spinach to ensure that phytonutrients like lutein and zeaxanthin, both of which are important for eye health, are as high as possible.
🌱
So my full smoothie recipe is:
1 x small banana
2 x large handfuls of organic, baby spinach
1 x small handful of kale
1 x small handful of frozen mango chunks
1 x dollop of natural yoghurt
cashew nut milk alternative.
Sprinkled with super seedy granola

After a wedding and honeymoon full of drinks, food, food and more food I'm in serious need of a health kick! ☺️

This lunch is so simple, but don't be deceived... It may only consist of 4 ingredients but it is packed full of nutrients such as:

✨Omega-3 EFAs - not only needed for cell membrane composition and production of hormones, they also play a key role in reducing inflammation

✨Lycopene - an incredible antioxidant found in the skins of tomatoes... Men, think prostate!

✨Vitamin C - important for the correvt formation of cartilage and healing of skin.

✨Vitamin E - a fat soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant.

✨B vitamins - essential for energy production.

✨Selenium - another major antioxidant.

✨Potassium - helps regulate muscle contractions and fluid balance...

✨Vitamin K - helps with your normal blood clotting process.

The list continues...

Pretty impressive for 4 ingredients πŸ’•

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you've all got some lovely plans? 😁
I've got a busy day ahead with wedding plans... I can't quite believe it's now in under two weeks. To give me a good boost to start the day, and some serious brain food, I'm tuckjng into another one of my avocado and spinach smoothie bowls! πŸ₯‘

In my bowl...
2 x handfuls of spinach,
5 x frozen strawberries πŸ“
1/4 avocado πŸ₯‘
strawberry protein powder
almond nut butter
cashew nut milk

Avocado is one of the most nutrient dense, plant based foods that you could include in your diet. They not only contain all B-vitamis (essential for energy) but also; vitamin K, vitamin E, potassium and magnesium to name a few other essential vitamins and minerals. Don't be fooled though, even though their fat is the "healthy" monounsaturated sort, no fat in excess is good. So, if you're watching your waistline, watch your intake and limit it to 0.25 - 0.5 πŸ₯‘ a day πŸ’₯

Baked cauliflower and chickpeas, coated in a spicy harrisa paste and toped with wilted spinach, feta, houmous and avocado. πŸ₯‘
Packed full of sulphur-containing phytonutrients, cauliflower helps to support detoxification and the cardiovascular system whilst reducing inflammation within the body.πŸ™Œ
This plant based dish provides a whole lot of other antioxidants and nutrients that help to promote optimal health.πŸ’•
It's also unbelievably filling and even the most avid of meat eaters would be happy with this...trust me! πŸ˜‹
I'm also absolutely loving the new camera on my ! πŸ’₯

This smoothie is not only refreshing but also provides essential nutrients for everyday health. 😊
The vitamin c content from the mango helps increase iron absorption from the spinach. πŸ™ŒπŸ»
Spinach is also full of phytonutrients which can act as antioxidants which protect against the damage of free radicals within the body, help to reduce inflammation and promote eye health πŸ‘€
So I guess it really is a super smoothie πŸ’š

Get your paws off my bowl 🐾
I’ve been radio silent for a while but I’ve had a lot going on and I believe that sometimes you’ve got to just do what you can. I’ve been working on assignments, my exams are coming up, I’ve hit the 7-week countdown to my wedding, adopted a cat, had a birthday (πŸ™ŒπŸ») and fitted in the most amazing Hen-do. πŸ’•
