In 2001 Jacques Marescaux performed the world's first remote surgery. A 68 year old women had her gallbladder removed in Strasbourg, France operated by the surgeon in New York. The surgery was conducted over high speed fibreoptic connections. This momentous event was called Operation Lindbergh.
Fast forward 22 years to China.
Liang Xiao, a surgeon, carries out a gallbladder operation through a 5G-powered and four-arm endoscopic model robot, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Feb 16, 2023.
With the help of a 5G-powered robot, a hospital in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province successfully removed a gallbladder on Thursday from a patient in the city of Aral, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, some 4,650 kilometers away.
I knew it would only be a matter of time before this happened as 5G offers high speed transfer and an ultra low latency.
