happy 90th birthday to his holiness the dalai lama.

“Time is always moving forward. With each passing moment, beginning from the instant of our birth, we come closer to the end, to our death. That is our nature, and the nature of the universe. As spiritually minded people, it is essential for us to constantly check and examine ourselves, to see how we are living every moment of our lives. In my own case, the major portion of my life is already gone. But, although I am a lazy practitioner of Buddhism, I can see that each year there is some progress in my life. Above all, I try to be a genuine follower of Buddha Shakyamuni and a good Buddhist monk. Of course, even Buddhist monks make mistakes in our lives and practices, but I think I have made some contribution to this world we share, especially to the preservation of Tibetan Buddhist culture.

“In spiritual matters, we should not allow ourselves to be too easily content, because truly there is no limit to our spiritual potential. All of us—any of us—can develop infinitely; and any of us can attain buddhahood. The mind we possess right now, though it may presently be full of ignorance and suffering, can eventually
become the mind of an enlightened being, of a buddha. Where our material possessions are concerned, finding contentment makes sense. But since there is no limit to our spiritual potential and there is a limit to the span of our life, we must make every effort to utilize what little time we have as well as we possibly can with this precious human lifetime.”

Rooted in Breath, Rooted in Being: A Three-Day Hatha Yoga Immersion w/ Isaac Mullins

Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th & Monday 26th May 1:00pm-4:00pm

This immersion offers three days to slow down, listen deeply, and reconnect with the innate steadiness of the body and breath.

Through traditional Hatha Yoga, breath awareness, and somatic exploration, we will invite a deeper experience of how movement and stillness arise within us.

Each day offers space to soften effort, refine sensitivity, and come closer to the quiet pulse of being — not by adding more, but by letting go of what clouds our natural clarity.

As stillness deepens, we open the possibility of moving through the tensions, patterns, and resistances that keep us from a deeper sense of peace.

Themes we’ll explore:
-Reconnecting with the body as a living field of sensation
-Breath awareness as a bridge to nervous system regulation and inner stability
-Cultivating stillness as a path to move through inner resistance
-Observing the breath, body, and mind as one unfolding field of awareness

Who it’s for: This immersion is for those who feel called to deepen their practice — not through greater effort, but through subtler listening — and to reconnect with the simple, steady ground of their own being.

Yoga-nidra (or “yogic sleep”) practices have become a popular tool for soothing the body, adjusting the state of the nervous system, and reconnecting with our deeper aspirations. Combining progressive relaxation, elements of meditation, and a comfortable position of the body (usually supine), these practices can serve as a wonderful act of self-care, replenishing our energy before or after other important activities.

There are, however, much deeper ways to use yoga-nidra, mainly related to extending the energy of our awareness to the states of dreaming, deep sleep and the process of falling asleep. This connects nidra practices with the fine Buddhist yoga of dreaming and sleeping, preserved in the Himalayan traditions of Buddhism and B?n as a way of tapping into our deep potential.

In this practice session, Buddhist translator and meditation instructor Michael Lobsang Tenpa will begin with upright gentle meditation, followed by some mindful movement, then facilitate a guided practice combining yoga nidra with the practices of heartfulness (including tenderness, loving kindness, and compassion). It is an opportunity to experience deep rest while also allowing our body and mind to deeply absorb the beautiful qualities of loving kindness and so forth.

“Four immeasurable attitudes, also referred to as the “four divine abodes” — love, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity — form the very heart of Buddhist methods for cultivating benevolence and prosocial skills.

Equally appreciated in the Pali and Sanskrit textual traditions of Buddhist teachings, these four attitudes are helpful for establishing attentional balance, transforming our relationships with others, and building healthy intentional communities for bringing change to the world. For Mahayana Buddhists, they form the basis of the awakened altruistic attitude of bodhicitta.

This introductory workshop on the four immeasurable will be equally suitable to complete beginners and to those who have been practicing for decades. We will be both visiting source teachings from the Pali and Sanskrit traditions, and quoting from some modern-day research on the benefits of loving kindness, compassion, and so forth. Meditations will be alternated with practical explanations, with an opportunity to ask any practice-related questions at any point.”
