“Blink, breathe, repeat. 💻 In a world of back-to-back Zoom calls, it’s easy to get caught up. Remember to give your eyes a well-deserved break and keep that blink-rate in check.

Practical Strategies for Relief - To keep your eyes from feeling like sandpaper by 5:00 PM, try these adjustments:

💻The 20-20-20 Rule - Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This allows the eye’s focusing muscles to relax.
💻Conscious Blinking - Place a sticky note on your monitor that says “BLINK” to remind yourself to fully close your eyes periodically during calls.
💻 Screen Ergonomics - Position your monitor so the top of the screen is at or slightly below eye level. You should be looking slightly downward, which helps keep the eyelids lower.
💻 Lighting Control - Use a matte screen filter to reduce glare and adjust your screen brightness to match the ambient light in your room.
💻 Hydration - Use preservative-free artificial tears before your meetings start to help with symptoms
💻 Supplement with Omega-3 and collagen with lutein that helps with blue light damage for skin and eyes- link in bio.
💻 Humidify - If you’re working in a room with AC or heating, the air is likely very dry. A small desk humidifier can help slow down tear evaporation.
💻 Blue Light Filters: While the jury is out on whether blue light causes permanent damage, using “Night Mode” or “Warmth” settings on your monitor can reduce the intensity and make long-term viewing more comfortable.

As part of her ocular rejuvenation journey at The Eye Retreat, Nicky Hambleton-Jones has incorporated omega-3 supplementation with Pharmanex MarineOmega to support the health of her eyes at a cellular level.

Rich in essential omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA and krill oil, MarineOmega helps support normal vision and overall eye health, nutrients that play a key role in maintaining healthy eye tissue and tear production.

Omega-3s are also known to help reduce inflammation and support the surface of the eye, a crucial factor for those experiencing dryness, irritation, or discomfort.

By combining advanced clinical treatments with targeted nutritional support, we’re helping restore comfort, clarity, and long-term ocular health from the inside out.

The nervous system plays a powerful role in inflammation, healing, and symptom regulation, which is why chronic stress and nervous system imbalance can make dry eye more persistent and harder to treat.
EXOMIND® is a new, non-invasive technology now available at The Eye Retreat, designed to support nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing, and overall treatment outcomes.

By strengthening the brain’s natural regulatory pathways, EXOMIND helps support the body’s ability to heal, creating the foundation for more stable, long-term dry eye relief.

This is whole-person dry eye care.

More screens. Less blinking. Eyes that never truly switch off.

In this conversation, Nicky Hambleton-Jones reflects on how modern life has quietly changed the way our eyes function and feel.

Hours spent focusing on screens. Moving between devices without pause. Air-conditioned environments. Artificial lighting. And alongside the natural ageing process, our eyes are under more constant strain than ever before.

“Our eyes have become more static. We stare more, and we blink less.”

Since Covid especially, our reliance on screens has accelerated, bringing with it a rise in dry eye, irritation, fatigue, and visible ageing around the eyes.

At The Eye Retreat, Sharon Flora helps patients understand the root causes behind these changes and offers advanced treatments designed not just to relieve symptoms, but to restore comfort, clarity, and confidence.

Because modern life may be unavoidable. But living with uncomfortable eyes doesn’t have to be.
