Rhinoplasty is not always about removing excess cartilage, in some cases cartilage is ADDED.
This can be done to:
▪️ Add Support
▪️ Improve the Shape
▪️ Open Airways for Improved Breathing

This is common for Revision Rhinoplasty.

How long until you see the final result after a Rhinoplasty?

Dr Amir Sadri goes through the recovery timeline and explains that the final result is usually visible around 12-18 months after surgery.

Every patients recovery is different so there is not an exact answer

3 most common sources for Cartilage Grafting in Revision Rhinoplasty.

▪️Nasal Septum
This is the internal between the nostrils and is the most common graft used in rhinoplasty as it can be taken during surgery easily. For a second rhinoplasty this may not be available.

▪️Ear Cartilage
Cartilage taken from the ear with the incision hidden at the back, less ideal for rhinoplasty as it is curved and soft.

▪️Rib Cartilage
This is the ideal place for grafting for Revision Rhinoplasty as cartilage here is strong and reliable.
This can be taken from the patient (autologous grafting) or donor rib cartilage can be used (cadaveric grafting).

A surgeon will let you know if you need a cartilage graft after assessing your nose.

After a Rhinoplasty, patients will come back to see me so we can keep an eye on recovery.

After 1 week I remove the internal & external splints and demonstrate how to tape the nose.

You will then come back 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year post-op so I can monitor recovery.

Dr Amir Sadri talks through this Cleft Rhinoplasty - one of the most challenging forms of Rhinoplasty.

What is a Bilateral Cleft Lip & Palate?
A birth defect where the upper lip and roof of the mouth (palate) do not fuse properly, causing openings on both sides.

These images are taken immediately after surgery, this is not the final result.

How Rib Cartilage is cut for Rhinoplasty

The Oblique Split Method is a technique used to carve the costal cartilage, where it is cut usually around 30°–45° to its long axis.
This prevents warping and provides long term stability.
