What’s that all about? …
The midline as an imaginary line down the middle of your child’s body from head to between their feet.
By “crossing” the midline you are rolling or folding the arms or legs over to the other side of the body.
Crossing the midline helps with:
💫 Developing coordination and communication of the left and right sides of the brain
💫 Bilateral integration - This is using both sides of the body at the same time. Baby & Toddler Yoga is great for developing this. You could tap opposite foot to hand.
💫 Body awareness/sensation – information from the body’s joints/muscles telling the brain about the body’s position
As your baby grows and develops this will help with areas such as getting dressed, putting on socks and shoes, drawing and writing and other activities including following words & finger across a book whilst reading!
If you have any concerns about your child’s development please speak to a GP or Health Visitor.
