First birthday cake for my daughter. I decided to make a fruit “cake” for her because she loves fruits and it’s all in season - apart from the pineapple but I needed something yellow 🤷🏻‍♀️. All I can say it was a hit. Happy birthday to the dearest little person in the world. 🎂🎉🎊

Centuries of female exclusion has meant women’s diseases are often missed, misdiagnosed or remain a total mystery.
"A National Institutes of Health-supported pilot study from Rockefeller University that looked at how obesity affected breast and uterine cancer didn’t enrol a single woman."
A must read about gender biases in medical trials.

Stumbled upon this fantastic hot pot place on a cold and rainy night in Amsterdam. It was definitely the best choice in that weather. We had a great variety to choose from so we went for a lot of fresh veggies, mushrooms and tofu. Highly recommended if you are in Amsterdam.

Many of my clients know how fond I am of meditation. I try to do it on a daily basis and I started to feel positive changes after a week of regular practice. More and more studies are done in this are and the findings are similar: "relatively brief meditation training in novices (for instance, the well-known eight-week MBSR program) can also shift brain function, improve well-being, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety". Read more about the topic in this article and start practicing today:

A new study provides compelling evidence that different forms of meditation can change the brain in measurable ways.

Each year, the UK Government tests a range of fruits and vegetables for pesticide residues. Using data over a five-year period, Pesticide Action Network UK has produced the following lists of the ‘dirtiest’ and ‘cleanest’ fruit and vegetables. The results are based on how many of the samples tested revealed residues of more than one pesticide:

The Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen – as seen on BBC's The Honest Supermarket Pesticides used in agriculture can often leave detectable traces of chemicals in, or on, our food known as ‘residues’. The residues detected on a food item will depend on which pesticides have been used and how persist...

Cannot agree more. We always talk about exclusion diets but who talks about including some very healthy and wonderful foods? We need more evidence on these to convince the doubters about the value of nutritional therapy. thanks for bringing it up during your talk.

Another study on eggs, another vague conclusion. How about conducting a study when they don't isolate eggs but look at people's other food and lifestyle choices? It would be also interesting to start including studies with genetic testing, as hereditary high cholesterol has been recognized by health professionals and scientists.

"A study published on 15th March showed associations of dietary cholesterol or egg consumption with higher incidences of mortality and cardiovascular disease. BANT would like to take the opportunity to comment on the research since the consumption of eggs and links to heart disease have been controversial for decades.

BANT would like to advise the public that the study in question only shows an association, rather than a cause and effect and therefore cannot conclude links between eggs, cholesterol and mortality. Furthermore, it should be pointed out that:

• There are other factors to consider when looking what is causing high death rates in people who eat a lot of eggs.

• The associations reported in the study are only a “modest” association especially when compared to other risk factors such as smoking.

• The study does not report how the eggs were consumed, whether someone was eating a boiled egg each day or consuming as part of a fry-up, which is less healthy.

• Many other studies including meta-analyses show null effect of egg consumption on Cardiovascular Health Risk.

At all times, BANT is urging all to consider the study quality and biases before taking the headlines as gospel."

They do not suggest ‘one-size-fits-all’ advice following the health trend of the moment. BANT Nutrition Practitioners will provide the advice that best suits the client in front of them, whether they be omnivore, vegetarian or vegan. The Nutrition and Lifestyle medicine practiced by BANT Registered practitioners would always encourage the consumption of individual ingredients over ultra-processed foods.

Spring is on the doorstep and this is an excellent time of the year to start a fast. There are many forms of fasting, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can only consume water or vegetable juices. You can choose not to eat meat or maybe leave coffee behind for a while. I wrote a short article on the topic, read it if you are interested.

Fasting is not a new concept; it has been part of life since Palaeolithic times when food was scarce and people did not have the means to store huge amounts of food. The community was dependent on the...

N**e shopping - don't worry, you can still wear clothes when you go to a store! It's a term used to describe selling vegetables without plastic wrapping. New Zealand is pioneering again. I hope more countries follow suit.

But keep your clothes on...'food in the n**e' means beginning of the end for...
