Last week, the UK made history.
The To***co and Vapes Act is now law, making it illegal to sell to***co to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009, delivering a historic step towards a smoke-free UK. A generation of children will now grow up never legally able to buy ci******es.
At Trekstock, we welcome this wholeheartedly. Smoking remains one of the most significant preventable causes of cancer, and prevention matters enormously. But so does what comes after a diagnosis.
Because for every person in their 20s, 30s and 40s who will be protected by this legislation in the years to come, there are thousands of young adults navigating a cancer diagnosis right now. People whose needs are frequently overlooked, who are told they're too young to be this unwell, and who often find themselves without the tailored support they deserve.
Preventing future cancers and supporting people living with cancer today are two sides of the same coin.
We celebrate this landmark moment. And we'll keep showing up for the people who need support right now, while the long-term benefits of this legislation do their vital work.
