2024 and we are still discussing of whether or not the same behaviour that is a crime against an adult may be a crime against a child too. Children are still treated as B-citizens even in so-called first-world countries.

In “Pictures of a Childhood”, Alice Miller explores the connection between childhood and that creative activity which “somehow permits us to give form to the chaos within and thereby master our anxiety.” Having realised in the early seventies a lifelong desire to paint, Dr. Miller found an unfamiliar world emerging from her paintings: not the “nice” world of her childhood, to which she had always testified, but one of fear, despair and loneliness. Meditating on her spontaneously executed watercolors – sixty-six of which are reproduced here in full color – and their implications, Dr. Miller offers an analysis of the roots of creativity in the authentic self’s struggle for survival. - Farrar Straus Giroux, 1986, New York, Penguin USA, 1996 edition

Complex Trauma - when a child is in an ongoing environment of danger or where their needs are not met - requires the child to adapt. They hope it will result...

Who is right and who is wrong: Alice or Martin?
How can Alice Miller have done the opposite of what she preached?

I read the blog post below, it looks like many others, and it represents exactly what a lot of peole feel about this debate. What do you think?

"I googled the book to find more material like it, and found out that after Mrs. Miller death, her son Martin apparently came forward on how his upbringing was the exact opposite of what his mother preached. It was horrifying to read about. He paints a picture of a controlling, viciously manipulative presence".
