Meet our new Doctor of Chiropractic - Georgios Barbouris who has joined the Hampstead Chiropractic clinic. Dr Georgios graduated with a Master’s degree in Chiropractic from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic. Since then, he has continued to grow his expertise through further training, mentorship, and hands-on experience in busy clinics.
Georgios has a special passion for helping babies, children, and families, as well as people suffering with headaches and migraines — an area close to his heart, as his father struggled with chronic migraines for many years. He also enjoys caring for those with everyday issues such as back pain, neck pain, and dizziness, always tailoring treatment to the individual.
In practice, Georgios uses a variety of treatment techniques, including the Activator Protocol, Diversified adjustments, Myofascial Release, and Medical Dry Needling, to create a care plan that best suits each patient. His approach is gentle, precise, and patient-centred, aiming not only to ease symptoms but to improve long-term health and function.
Outside the clinic, Georgios brings his Greek energy and love of sunshine to everything he does. A former professional basketball player, he now enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, weight training, and exploring new cuisines. Food, family, and fun are at the heart of his life — and he carries the same warm, approachable spirit into his work, creating a relaxed environment where patients feel at ease from the very first visit.

Sprengels deformity is a common congenital anomaly present at birth. This condition affects many people and also a few famous actors including Joaquin Phoenix. It prevents one or both shoulder blades from sitting in the right position.

🌟 Sprengel’s Deformity of the Scapula 🌟

🔹 Definition

A congenital anomaly where the scapula fails to descend from the neck to its normal thoracic position during embryonic development.

Results in an undescended/elevated scapula.

🔹 Etiology & Associations

Present at birth 👶

May be unilateral or bilateral

Often associated with:

Omovertebral bone (bony or fibrous connection between scapula & cervical spine)

Klippel-Feil syndrome (congenital fusion of cervical vertebrae)

Scoliosis and rib anomalies

🔹 Clinical Features

Elevated, small, and medially rotated scapula 🦴

Restricted shoulder abduction (usually limited to 90°)

Cosmetic deformity – asymmetric shoulder height

Possible neck webbing and short neck if associated with Klippel-Feil

🔹 Diagnosis

Clinical examination

X-ray / CT / MRI to check omovertebral bone or vertebral anomalies

🔹 Management

Mild cases: Physiotherapy 🏋️ (to improve ROM & strengthen shoulder muscles)

Severe cases: Surgical correction (Woodward’s or Green’s procedure) usually done between 3–8 years of age for best results.

World Breastfeeding Week 2025

BREASTFEEDING AS COST SAVING.

These statistics speak for themselves. It’s very short sighted to think these will be achievable without some investment and the prioritising of skilled, effective breastfeeding support from qualified professionals being standard for all families.

It’s not enough to simply state these facts...change needs to happen in order to support families and our health care system to achieve these statistics.

Practitioners need training and education around breastfeeding, and information about how to refer on if necessary so families get the correct support and information.

We need to recognise the value of the IBCLC to offer this support and expertise within the health system.

The responsibility of recognising the value of breastfeeding and breastmilk doesn’t rest with parents alone.

Memory foam or pocket sprung?

We often get asked if a memory foam mattress is better than a pocket sprung / foam combination.

It really depends on personal preference. At our clinic we recommend trying before buying.

A memory foam can be very comfortable, however they can also be too comfortable. Some clients report that they turn less in bed (pressure is taken off our pressure sensors which makes us turn regularly to avoid pressure sores) resulting in us turning less though the night and potentially waking up more stiff due to less movement.
Others, love a memory foam mattress. We love a pocket sprung with a memeory foam topper.

For those couples who cannot agree, some companies offer a bespoke custom made option for both sides of the bed.
This way eveyone gets some peaceful sleep!

How do you feel about chiropractic care for a newborn?

The first time, 10+ years ago, a parent told me they were taking their newborn to a chiropractor, I almost fell out of my chair. Most pediatricians will tell you that you shouldn’t take your child to a chiropractor, but I couldn’t deny the results some of my patients were seeing. So I Took the time to get to know a few that I trust wholeheartedly to not harm a baby. And I’ve seen just too many good results to think it’s a coincidence.

One thing I promised myself when I was a younger physician was that I would never get stuck in a rut, that I would never stop learning, that I would always keep my mind open. I’ll never be perfect, but I’ll always be improving.

And, like any good health care, you shouldn’t just take them when there is an issue.

What have you take your baby to a chiropractor for?

I’ve referred for:
-sleep issues
-gerd
-fussiness
-gassiness
-after a fall or accident
- ear infections
-and more

There are lots of ways to "exercise". The main thing is to MOVE.
A 30 minute walk has physical and emotional benefits. Reducing 'sitting time' and connecting with people are very good for us too.
